DNF-ed the book, but tried to give it another chance through the audible version of the dramatised audiobook—which was enjoyable in both narrator and background track. Emma's character development was great. However, the general storyline, or lack of, was abit too slow for my liking. All they do is visit each other daily, do they not have other tasks at hand?

Note: This is not to discount the writing of Jane Austen which was beautiful.

If you know and enjoy Jane Austen’s work you will not be disappointed. Emma is rather slower paced and feels like nothing is actually happening at times, but that is precisely what makes it such an enjoyable read. Those who prefer action, adventure, and lots of dialogues might not be entirely satisfied, however, if you are someone who loves thorough descriptions of various environments, scenarios, interactions, and the characters’ inner thoughts, you will be delighted and it will take no time to finish the book.

Do not assume that every page is filled with romance, especially when it comes to the main character, Miss Emma Woodhouse, who is completely opposed the idea of getting married herself. She does, however, love match-making, and, consequently, most of the book does include some type of romance, even if not presented as the main plot or shown as Emma’s own experience. Furthermore, be prepared for not being completely in love with Emma, as she starts out as rather an unlikeable character with all her meddling and slight manipulation of others. The story shows perfectly just how much influence other people can have on one’s behavior, both when it comes to Miss Woodhouse and other characters (Mr. Elton). Lastly, although seemingly a simple (yet lengthy) romance book, the story stays surprising and filled with plot twists all throughout.
