I really loved this world. I love the action mixed with the internal conflicts, and I love that this was a satisfying conclusion to a very awesome duology. I love how Emika changes and develops, and I love (even with some plot holes) all the different characters that work together. Love this book.
Not quite as good as the first title in the series. The best bits are toward the end of the book. It is still a good read.
If you liked reading “RP1” and “Armada” and enjoyed watching “Minority Report” and “Free Guy,” then Marie Lu’s “Warcross” duology is for you. I liked the plot, the pacing, and the high stakes– like all good sci-fi, these two books ask good questions about technological overreach, the social implications of virtual reality, and what it means to be human. What frustrates me and keeps me from handing out that oh-so coveted fifth star is that these books are about 18-25 year olds AND YET they are marketed as Young Adult (for 12-17 year olds). I’m sorry but I call shenanigans on make-out scenes and sex scenes being part of a story aimed at people who are in middle school and high school. I don’t think it’s prudish to ask for books to be more appropriately labeled– these stories are New Adult.
Another great read by Marie Lu! Exciting, on-the-edge-of-your-seat drama. This would be a good recommendation for young adults that are into gaming, computers, and science fiction.
Such a great end to the story. I truly am going to miss the world and the characters in this series- I felt so connected with them and needed to know how everything unraveled. I honestly felt the entire book was very rushed, like a sped up but drawn out ending whereas the first book seemed more like a full story arc. But I did like how they handled Hideo’s situation and how Erika became the CEO of Henka Games. I honestly wish we got to explore more characters like Sansuke, Jax, Tremaine, Asher, Hamme and Roshon, but all in all I loved this series.
I kept reading it but didn't really love it? All the cool world building of book 1 had already happened and there were a LOTTT of flashbacks. Emika just kind of learning everything that had happened previously as opposed to doing a lot of things herself. Fine, cool to know how it wrapped and I will say the last hour or so was fun, but other than that meh.
I feel bad but this one just didn't live up to my expectations. I loved Warcross so much because of the characters but this one felt underwhelming and convenient at times.
4.5 stars
This was a very strong ending to a great series. I absolutely loved how the author wrapped up this story and brought things to a conclusion of sorts. And I will say that the main characters really grew on me in this one. This book was not exactly character-driven, which is what I usually prefer, but the author created such an interesting world with plenty of action and tension, and while many of the characters started and remained somewhat sketched in, Emika, Hideo, and Zero became much more developed in this book, and while the individuals on Emika's team were slightly more developed than they were in the first book, the team as a whole was a strong entity in its own right. Additionally, there were quite a few twists in this book, some of which were not expected, so that was also very cool. The romance part of this series was also not the usual YA romance, which I appreciated. Overall, I really enjoyed this duology and I look forward to diving into other series by this author.

Quite good. My only complaint is that the last quarter of the book started feeling a little too close to Inception. But the characters are compelling and the journey is enjoyable.
Liked this better than the first. More suspense and mystery here. I did miss the Warcross games though.
The twists were less predictable so the story was more engaging.
Thought it was going into bury your gays but managed to avoid it.
Still don’t understand why the majority of the characters are American, British, and European, even when they have southeast-Asian descent.
Ending may have been a bit too neat but enjoyable nonetheless.
