Ahh this book was so good. There was a very magical aspect to it, probably because it involved the royal palace. Dominic was sooo swoon-worthy and a sweetheart! Love the sunshine-grumpy trope so much!!!!

“I’ve had many feelings about Sylvie, none of them casual” UGH we love Dom

I read the 2nd book in this series months ago without knowing it was connected to this one and I LOVED it and also really enjoyed this one! The bakery setting was so fun and the competition between them was adorable. No 3rd act break up, only good tension haha.

Spoilers!!

I’m so glad they didn’t ruin Jays character and make him an asshole after telling Sylvie how he feels. I appreciated that they stayed friends and he was able to act maturely about the whole situation.

Not for me. It flip flops between being soooooo saccharine sweet and then trying to tackle serious topics all the whole reading like a self insert Royal family fanfic.

Fun little rom com featuring the winner of a British Bake Off-type reality show and one of show's hosts.

I received an ARC from Avon publishing!

This book was such a fun and emotional ride! The Great British Bake Off meets Sally Thorne's The Hating Game, featuring a quirky and sweet romance that goes from enemies-to rivals-to lovers.

Sylvie was a fan favorite on a baking show four years ago, ultimately voted off by the brooding and arrogant judge, Dominic. Now, she's got something to prove and is living out her dream of owning a glitter and fairytale-like bakery--right across the street from Dominic's famous bakery. But when the chance of a lifetime--the opportunity to bake the cake for a royal wedding--arises, Sylvie and Dominic each fight for the honor. Soon, irritation turns into respect, and ultimately into something a lot steamier.

Battle Royal was a lengthy romcom with a lot to offer; there is a mystery, royal intrigue, and lots of incredible food descriptions that will make you salivate as much as the steamy scenes. I'm not going to lie, I teared up a few times while reading, and I swear I am not at all the "cries while reading a book" type. While this is a romance, it developed through the thick and layered plot. I had thought the baking show would be featured more, but the rivalry really ended up truly being in the fight to land the gig of the royal wedding cake. The romance is a super slow burn but culminates in a really lovely way, as does the mystery.

I already know who will be the two MCs of the next book in this series and I will for sure be reading!
