I’m not usually into short stories. I don’t think I’ve read many thrillers that were short stories, so I was intrigued to read The Killing Type. I have enjoyed Jane Corry’s books in the past, so I thought I’d give this story a go. I’m glad I did, because I found it entertaining and easy to whip through. The perfect novella to read in-between stories.

The Killing Type centres around Susie and Danielle. We get the impression that they’re not very close with one another. However, they’re still sisters. There’s some massive drama surrounding Simon, the husband… Then six months down the line, Simon is dead. Who killed him? Did he really try to hurt the sisters? It’s all a bit confusing.

In true Jane Corry style, she whips through the story with twists and turns along the way. It may not be as well developed as you may like, but you can’t really expect that in a short story. It certainly entertained me and that was its intention!

I didn’t realise it was a short story - and a very short story at that! - when I e-borrowed it from the library. Kind of a pointless read with a weak story. Nothing to be gained by wasting 10 minutes reading this.

A short story by Jane Corry about two sisters. If anything too short - not enough detail and jumped over periods of time without really explaining everything. Didn’t enjoy it at all. Thanks to Netgalley and Penguin Books for the ARC in return for an honest review.

My main issue with this book was it's length, it could have easily been a longer story and had so much more value and quality to it.

No sooner had I started reading this book I guessed where it was going and how it would end, I feel if it was longer it wouldn't have been so easy to do so, the author could have spent more time building up to the story, teasing us with little hints and comments.

The story itself was clever, the premise was good I just felt like it lacked that length to make it into a really good plot and book.

A quick read that gets your attention from the jump. I enjoyed the writing, and the pacing (and length of the book) kept me engaged with the story.

I love Jane Corry as a writer, as her books are so well-written and full of suspense, which is exactly what you want in a psychological thriller. ‘The Killing Type’ is a very short book, or ‘novella’l; I don’t feel I can give a synopsis as the book is so short that once you’ve read the synopsis, you’ve practically read the book. It had the bones of a really good story, but due its short length it skipped a huge amount of info. And skipped forward in months a few times. I don’t understand why something which had the potential to be a fantastic novel, was wasted on around 30 pages of a story.

I love a well written short story and this one, all about sisters Danielle and Susie, 14 months apart, who have a Mum who needs long term care, takes deception to a new level in an engaging way.
Whilst it might not be terribly difficult to work out what is going on, there is a twist or two, firstly what happens to Mum and secondly the path each sister ends up on.
Beware sibling rivalry and jealousy. Sometimes it can be deadly!

Short domestic suspense with a twist, loved it!
