Such an odd one. Some parts were so beautifully written and relatable and others dragged and seemed unrealistic, especially around the 3/4 mark on. I own this movie and (can't believe I'm going to say this) I like the movie better.

Much better than the movie!

I've read three of [a:Jennifer Weiner|9212|Jennifer Weiner|http://photo.goodreads.com/authors/1175639513p2/9212.jpg]'s books prior to reading this one, and although this wasn't my favorite of all that I'd read ([b:Goodnight Nobody|14756|Goodnight Nobody|Jennifer Weiner|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1166661052s/14756.jpg|1440388], [b:Little Earthquakes|80536|Little Earthquakes|Jennifer Weiner|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1170983966s/80536.jpg|3111329], [b:Good In Bed|14748|Good in Bed|Jennifer Weiner|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1166661038s/14748.jpg|2796838]) it was just as well-written, just as entertaining, just as enjoyable a read as those others. Jennifer Weiner has quickly become one of my favorite 'chick-lit' authors, and her books are among those that I would reach for first when looking for a fast, entertaining read that is neither sickeningly saccharine nor depressingly gloomy.

Her characters feel real and honest; their problems sometimes jaw-dropping but not unbelievable. Although I have yet to identify personally with any of her protagonists, I've enjoyed feeling pulled into their heads and worlds to live vicariously (whether I want to or not) through their lives.

If you enjoy books from the 'chick lit' category, [b:In Her Shoes|14758|In Her Shoes|Jennifer Weiner|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1166661053s/14758.jpg|964332], as well as her others, shouldn't be missed. I'd recommend this for some light (if not necessarily lighthearted) reading.

I felt like the author was really long winded, the book could have been a lot shorter. Overall though it was interesting showed a true sister bond, and kept me hooked. Way better than the movie. Although I felt the ending was abrupt in the book.

I read this a while ago, but I enjoyed it. I also liked the movie. :)

You and I have read this book a hundred times before, fun-loving sister versus practical sister. Both learn lessons and find a love for each other. This version is slightly ridiculous and lacking a lot of realism.

Pretty sure I didn't even like the movie so I'm kind of wondering why I wanted to read the book? Maybe I thought the book was going to be better? I have no idea why I did though because I didn't like either of them!

Okay, In Her Shoes has one dumb sister and one smart sister. A pretty common theme for some writers but not my favorite. I couldn't really connect to either sister, Maggie or Rose, because it just didn't seem that realistic to me.

Before I get any hate comments or rants from people who loved this book - let me explain! I'm the youngest in my family out of three children. I have an older brother and sister - we are about 4-5 years apart. My sister and I have never really been compared against one another. I mean, we both played soccer and piano. We both went to school. We both have hazel eyes. However, we have different hair colors (her's is a lighter brown while mine is darker) and we have different personalities. My parents (or relatives) never compared us against each other while we were growing up and still don't to this day. Our friends never compared us because we ran in different groups while growing up but now we all kind of merged. It's like all on big giant crazy family friendship kind of thing.

Now I'm not saying it isn't realistic to someone else because everyone grows up in different ways and deals with different situations. I'm also not saying you were loved less or more than me - because I honestly have no idea.

I just didn't like this book because I couldn't relate to either character. Or the story line. Pretty much the entire book did not agree with me.

I also didn't have any wine available near me and I was kind of lazy to go out and buy some while I was reading this book. If I had wine, I might have liked this book a lot more but I can't change the past nor can I predict the future.

I wish I liked it but I didn't.

I won't lie, I wasn't expecting much out of this book. In fact, I didn't even want to read it, if it wasn't for my book club I never would have picked it up. I'm not big into chick-lit and the whole premise of this book sounded uninteresting. I'm glad to report that I was very wrong!

The story follows two sisters who can't be more dissimilar. Rose is the responsible older sister who went to college, landed a great job at a law firm, she has the brains. Maggie on the other hand is irresponsible, can't ever hold down a job, and has a learning disability. She may not have the brains but she has the amazing body that her frumpy sister always dreamed about. Maggie loses her job, gets evicted, and has to say with Rose until she can turn her luck around. Rose is at her wits end and finally snaps when she catches her freeloading sister having sex with her boyfriend. Rose unceremoniously kicks them both to the curb and tries to come to term with what happened. Maggie on the other hand has no place to go and sleeps from place to place until she ends up finding her long lost grandmother in Florida.

This story is about a sisters love and how much it can handle before it breaks. But does it ever truly go away? Is sister's bond for life?

Really, not bad for chick lit. I look forward to watching the movie!

In Her Shoes is a suprisingly thoughtful look into the lives of two sisters who are polar opposites. And although I found it a bit slow and overdramatic at times, I enjoyed it a lot. Highly recommended. (The film is good too!)
