Wish he was around for the rise of the premier league in America

I'm a fan of Hunter S. Thompson, but it was too hard and too scattered for me to get into this book. It's really repetitive (doom, gambling, occasional celebrity anecdote) and I couldn't actually finish it.

I need to write a review later when I have the time, but I say no one has ever had quite the read on the American psyche that The Good Doctor had. Reading his voice on how the 21st century started makes me sad that we didn’t have him around for the last few years.

Ho ho.
It was about three books deep into the assorted writings of Dr. Hunter S. Thompson that I started to wonder whether his was a genius that was lost on me.
Perhaps the atavistic ramblings from a dedicated sports column were never meant to be what I would define as essential, but who am I to say. A relatively sober, queer letter carrier so far North that the gaping maw of metropolis exhales its exhaust onto my face and calls it "temporal potpourri".
I was looking forward to the modern history angle offered within, but I just could not bring myself to care about sports.
Whatever insights are buried within this tome would require a jackhammer and excavation crews way beyond my paygrade or interest-level.

When Hunter killed himself, "Hey Rube" was all I had left. It was definitely his final comment on the state of the world and I enjoyed every minute of it. Hunter remains with us as long as his books do.
