I loved this book. Four stars for the book (I've never liked Kingsolver this much!) and a bonus star for Frida Kahlo, Diego Rivera, and the Day of the Dead in Mexico worked in there. I didn't expect this to be historical fiction, and I had to keep double checking whether the main character Harrison Shepherd was real, or inserted into real events in history. This is well worth persisting through the first 50 less-than-exciting pages. I received this as a birthday gift a few years ago and can't believe I waited so long to read it. It was worth the wait and fun to discuss.

The beautiful story layers and the colorful characters are hard to improve on. Lacuna has surpassed her other novels for my new favorite Kingsolver book.
I loved this book. Loved. It follows a young man who is employed by Leon Trotsky and is good friends with Frida Kahlo.
Historical fiction set primarily in Mexico City.
And the writing made me swoon at parts.

Amazing author, great book. Broaches art history (Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera), revolution, McCarthyism and more. Excellent writing, stunning characters.
I feel like I should have liked this book so much more than I did. It is epic, interesting, informative, well written. But I just couldn't get into it or look forward to it.
Like all of Kingsolver's books this doesn't disappoint. I wish I had a book club to discuss this one with - I know there is stuff I missed.
As much as I loved previous BK books, I’m not loving this one. I don’t care for her as the audiobook narrator — that’s the biggest turn off. A lot of other reviews say the first part is boring, but it gets better if you stick with it. I just can’t. Maybe I’ll read the paper book someday.
