Original if illogical plot, likable though shallow characters, pretty if maudlin prose, ending leaving you wondering what happens next. Having read the sequels, nothing interesting.
A sample funny part:
“You’re going to get naked. Yeah, I got it, Charlotte. Don’t need the mental picture.”
I nearly choke on my Diet Coke. Sarah has a habit of knocking everything down to the lowest common denominator, which to her usually involves getting naked.

Review on blog: A Need So Beautiful Review
After reading this book, I just feel like cuddling up and cry for Charlotte. It was heart wrenching the book is. But once I picked the book up I couldn't stop reading. There's 2 reason for it:
1. It was just that awesome. It got me hanging to it's every word.
2. I was sneaking reading it in class because:
a) I wanted to finish it as quickly as possible because I don't want to burden my already heavy school bag with it.
b) Alia wanted to read this book immediately once she saw me holding it. I just have to finish it for her.
Suzanne Young wrote it beautifully although I didn't really feel it in the beginning. It was just full of emotion. A never-ending battle between good and evil. It's typical, I know, but she wrote it with a fresh twist, immediately making me put her in my 'Books From Author That I Just Must Have List'.
The sequel's coming out on June, 2012 and I can't wait to read it! Here's the link to it if you want to see it.

I really loved this book. I thought that the plot was interesting and it had a certain essence to it that made it an easy read. The main character, Charlotte was an interesting heroine and the challenges presented to her were very real. If I was presented with another book like this by Suzanne Young, I'd read it in a heartbeat. I can't wait to read "A Want so Wicked" by Suzanne Young.
This really gets 4 1/2 stars. I absolutely LOVED this book. It was the saddest happy ending I've ever read. It truly is a beautiful story. I was just not happy with the "After". I thought everything tied up so nicely at the end that "After" really wasn't necessary. If it weren't for that I would have given it 5 stars. Guess we'll see what the next one brings.
Interesting concept. I really liked but I need to gather all my thoughts on this one before writing a review.
I actually read this book a little while ago. It was another one of those Borders going out of business pick-ups. I couldn't resist the cover, it's almost like it glows.
I have to admit, I'm a sucker for a happy ending and from the moment I started reading this book I knew. I knew how it was going to turn out. I put it down for an hour thinking I was mad at it, how could this be happening to Charlotte and then quickly scooped it up and read like my life depended on it. I had moments when I was angry at characters and moments when I was just sad. I loved Harlin's dedication to Charlotte even though she was acting out of sorts. This was a great example of sacrifice for the greater good but I honestly had moments where i was torn between wanting her to be selfish and wanting her to fulfill her Need. We all sometimes struggle to do the right thing, nobody is perfect. I loved that about this book.

I give this book five stars mainly because I cried because of this. A Need So Beautiful, despite the fictional nature of the story, exposes you to real emotions that would tug and break your heart.
A Need So Beautiful tells us about Charlotte, a kind of angel here on Earth called the Forgotten, who has this compulsions -- or Needs -- to help and save human lives. This kind of plot isn't too foreign for me because I've read Die For Me by Amy Plum. If she doesn't fulfill this compulsions of hers, she feel a physical pain that would ultimately force her to do whatever the Need wants her to do.
At first, Charlotte didn't know about this true nature of hers. But she was all aware about this Needs. When her skin started peeling off, revealing gold on her body, circumstances led her to visit her doctor, who was the instrument in making her aware of who she truly was.
The book is about losses, about staying and being remembered. It's about holding on to the things that you love and defying your destiny for your status quo. When Charlotte learned about where the Needs will lead her to, she tried to fight against it because she wanted to stay with the people she loved, most especially with her boyfriend Harlin.
Now, about Harlin. She's Charlotte's boyfriend and was introduced since at the beginning of the book. I thought that they were going to break up in the middle of the story and Charlotte's going to find a boy someone like her after she'll find out about who she truly was. It was sort of the way other books went. But I was proven wrong -- and gladdened -- that Harlin remained Charlotte's love interest through-out the course of the book. And I was very awed by their relationship. I love Harlin and I love reading the scenes when they are together. It's very sweet and you could feel the strength of their feelings for each other. It's very intense and filled with love. Harlin is very thoughtful and caring.
I believe the summary provided by Goodreads is inappropriate. Harlin didn't think Charlotte was cheating on him. Charlotte kept a lot of secrets from him. She kept the whole deal about the Needs from him and it bugged Harlin. It worried and concerned him that she kept on lying. That was one of the biggeest issues between the two of them. The secrets. Charlotte never cheated and Harlin never thought she was.
About Harlin's true nature, I had my guesses and suspicions and I was right about him. :) The way he could make Charlotte feel better whenever she's in pain because of her Need told me something about who Harlin really was. And yeah, did I mention I love how sweet they are to each other?
Another thing that I loved about the book was the unpredictability of the ending. I don't know about the other readers but I got confused as to how the story would end. I kept on guessing and guessing but felt quite not satisfied with my guesses so I just kept on reading and in the end, found out what would happen to Charlotte.
The ending was the part of the book that brought tears to my eyes. (Oh! I also cried during her last Need, when she stayed by the side of the dying man. It was so emotional and beautiful.) The intensity of emotions in there just moved me. As I was reading Charlotte's thoughts and indecision about the matter, I cried. I cried when she reminisced the things about Harlin. I cried when Harlin arrived and Charlotte was filled with joy at being still remembered. I cried because I ached for her and for the decision that she made. I cried because the doctor was also in pain. I cried because Harlin uttered those very beautiful words to her in the end. I cried because Charlotte and Harlin were very much in love.
A Need So Beautiful showed us a lot of human traits. We don't like to be forgotten. We strive hard to be remembered, we strive hard for memories of us to be implanted in the minds of other people. And our attachment to other people makes it hard for us to leave them. Charlotte worked to remain in the lives of the people she treasured but she also had a destiny to fulfill -- a destiny that was entirely angelic and good. Charlotte was a blessing to humankind and she had to act the part.
The story was emotional and beautiful. It possessed a kind of compulsion -- one that would urge you to read until the last lines.

This book was so......boring. I didn't feel attached to anything whatsoever. Not the story, not the characters, nothing. Honestly, that's all I can say about it. X_X
