I kind of want to do a duel review of this book and it’s sequel just to compare the two. Ah well, I’ll describe the differences in the second book’s review.
A Need So Beautiful is about Charlotte, an orphan child who has no memory of her past before she was found at the age of six. She’s had “the Need” for a while, which is like an impulse that she has to follow that usually results in helping someone else, and often hurting herself or those she loves. As the Needs become stronger and stronger, those around her begin to forget about her, forget their memories of her, and they’ll keep forgetting until there’s nothing left of Charlotte – in body, mind, and soul.
I found this books captivating. I’ve read a few other reviews where people were like ‘eh’ but I couldn’t put this book down. I loved the mystery of it, and the over all idea was interesting, different. It was like angel-like idea, but it wasn’t like the fallen angel idea. Instead, Charlotte grows up not really knowing what she is.
We get to understand everything that’s happening to Charlotte as it happens. We discover what/who she is when she does, and there’s something to that that makes it easy to connect with her character, to feel what she feels ’cause to both the reader and the characters, everything is new, it’s a surprise and you both experience it at the same time – the surprise, the denial, the pain. That kind of just made everything more interesting.
The pain, I think that was the thing that hit me the hardest. Honestly, no one should have to be forgotten…
Also, the ending of the novel was a surprise, and it made me want to read the second book immediately.
Honestly, it wasn’t the best book on the planet, there were holes and the insta-love thing was blah, and the writing wasn’t the best writing. But there was something about it that kept me reading. The real merit of the novel, in the end, were the emotions.

I wanted to give it 3 stars because 2 looks ugly, but i can't really say "I liked it". I didn't hate it or anything, but the book really did nothing for me, and it's just gonna go down as a forgettable read, unfortunately :( I really did want to enjoy it because of all the wonderful things people were saying, but I never liked any of the characters (minus Alex and Mercy), the plot, or the premise. Writing was solid.

This book was suggested to me by my librarian, and it was a decent enough read. I loved the idea of how she helps others overcome problems. In a way she is a psychic/mindreader, which has it's cool moments, but otherwise, I wish Young went more into that, and not so much make it more of a love story. I honestly loved the idea, I just really start to get annoyed whenever it becomes more about the relationship in the story, I like how she went into depth explaining how she became the person she was, because then you knew exactly how everything happened, I was just somewhat annoyed how it focused more so on her relationship with her boyfriend.
I really had to push myself to finish this book. I didn't like any of the characters: they were whiny and melodramatic. I lost count of the number of times I rolled my eyes. This got a 2 only because I managed to finish it.
Broke my heart, but I loved the ending. I did find it a little dumb that, despite the fact that she was helping people she didnt' know almost every day, she couldn't help those around her. It didn't even seem like she was really trying to.
A NEED SO BEAUTIFUL combines one of my favorite things and one of my least favorite: Suzanne Young and angels. I loved Young's previous novels, THE NAUGHTY LIST and SO MANY, but paranormal novels and I don't have the best relationship lately so I was more hesitant to pick up this one up. However, my love for Young's work overpowers my disdain for paranormal, and so I read this one with an open mind. I did not love it as much as the Naughty List series (probably because there are no spies), but I did very much enjoy it.
I really hate the "fallen angel" premise, where there's just a fallen angel hanging out in the real world and seducing girls with no self esteem. I vastly prefer when the angel story line is of the more unique variety, and A NEED SO BEAUTIFUL delightfully provided me with that. I loved the premise of the Need, despite how melodramatic that whole phrase sounds, and Young's version of angels. They didn't even seem like angels, but a whole new being entirely. My appreciation for these angels definitely made the plot more interesting for me; I was always excited to see where Charlotte's Need would take her, because all the places she ended up were so different and yet equally heart-wrenching and powerful.
While I did love the premise and plot, I had a few issues with some of the characters, which is probably why I don't love love this book. I did really like Charlotte; she is obviously not happy with the prospect of being Forgotten, and I liked how her mixed feelings on the situation were portrayed. Her inner dilemma is well written and remains a constant problem throughout the story, which helped to make the situation even more intense. It was a few of the supporting characters that I wanted more from. I liked the additions of Sarah, Charlotte's best friend, and Harlin, her boyfriend, because they more than anyone helped showcase why Charlotte was so uneager to be Forgotten. However, they also seemed a bit flat; Sarah seemed to be there only to move the story along and Harlin to be there only to look good. I also wasn't a huge fan of the story's main villain, who appeared so little that his or her appearances were just a bit cheesy, though I did appreciated the new information he or she brought along, as it helped emphasize the uncertainty of Charlotte's future.
A NEED SO BEAUTIFUL is an emotional and delightful new take on angels, but I could have done with more from the supporting cast of characters.

I definitely should not have waited so long to read this book. I've heard great things about it, but for whatever reason I didn't pick this book book up until recently.
One of my favorite things about this book is how beautiful was. Just everything about it--the prose and the feeling that the book gave off--was gorgeous and I loved it. I thought that this aspect was really unique and it added to the novel.
Charlotte was a really unique character. I admit, it took a while for me to warm up to her, but once I did, I loved her. She was such a flawed and complex character. She had a destiny she can't control that she wants no part of. She was selfish and in this case I completely understood why. This is part of what made her such a great character--she was flawed but relatable and an overall lovable character.
This is a story that sucks the reader in and doesn't let go.I will admit, I didn't get sucked in right away. It took a few pages but once I got into the book, I couldn't stop reading. From the short length and addicting quality, it is very easy to read this book in one sitting. It's kind of hard not to.
This book is an overall gorgeous read. One good thing about me waiting so long to jump on the bandwagon is that I don't have to wait to read the sequel!

I did not like this book, nor did I think it was as great as everyone says it is. I had a problem with the pacing, where everything felt like a straight line with some really small bumps for the action parts. I had a problem with how the story didn't really evolve. Yes she's a forgotten, then she's deciding whether or not to die. Then she decides. The end. I don't know how to describe it but the ending was obviously lame and except for one part, it was really disappointing to me. I did not like the fact that this book reads like a message saying that you have no say in your destiny. I just didn't like it at all. I'm so mad at the end, at the middle, and everything! Young shows she's a great writer and the storyline (i think) was a original, but it feels like she could have done so much more. It's a lot like Before I Fall. Except here, I'm left feeling frustrated because nothing real happened. Maybe I'm not explaining it right. Or maybe I'm just pissed off the young love dies. And the last 2 pages? Is that charlotte? God I wish and hope it was. Probably some other poor character that gets to die.
If this is charlotte, at the end, then I will actually read the next novel in hopes that the story improves. I really want it to be charlotte, sooo madly.

I went into this book very excited to read it, but I was left feeling disappointed. For some reason, I didn't grow attached to the characters. I found myself feeling like the story could have been much better developed and waiting for something more to happen. Overall, the premise was very interesting, and it was a fairly good read, but it didn't blow me away.
