The idea behind this book, the idea of being forgotten, is something I'm sure everyone thinks about from time to time. Maybe you have had a dream where your family or friends don't remember who you are. That's a nightmare right there. A nightmare that Charlotte is living. I was completely wrapped up in her story. Imagine feeling extreme pain if you don't fulfill the urge to help someone. What a unique idea, and it was exicuted perfectly.
Charlotte was a fantastic main character. She was confused and frustrated that she didn't understand what was happening to her. Once she discovers what is happening to her she fights to stay, fights to be remembered. Harlin (that has been one of my favorite names for years) is swooooon worthy. Her boyfriend is so sweet. I wanted to be the one wrapped up in his arms. I felt so bad for him and was begging Charlotte to just tell him about the Need already!
The writing is wonderful. Easy to read and holds your attention through the whole book. I couldn't wait to begin each and every chapter. Suzanne did a wonderful job on this book. I cannot wait for the second one!

2.5/5; not for me.
I follow Suzanne Young's blog and I thought the cover for this was very beautiful with its rich golds although I'm not a big fan of a face staring at me. I didn't know much about the plot going in so I had basically no expectations.
And at first I was enjoying myself. Charlotte seemed like a good person and I was intrigued by her friend Sarah, a brash and fun person. I wasn't really interested in her boyfriend Harlin but wasn't sure how big of a role he would play so I figured I could tolerate him. Then the paranormal element kicked in. Turns out Charlotte has increasingly been experiencing overpowering feelings she dubs the Need that force her to leave wherever she is and help somebody. She is growing worried over the frequency of these instances, especially as the people around her are worried.
Then we discover that Charlotte is a Forgotten, who sounds sort of like an angel. She is someone who does good in the world before disappearing, leaving everyone's life a bit better but without any memory of her. Needless to say Charlotte is terrified of this fate, especially because it means leaving Harlin. Now I didn't really care for Harlin so her constant fear of losing him annoyed me rather than struck a chord with me. He's a decent guy but he didn't interest me and there's a lot about her feelings about their relationship which bored me rather than touched me.
Additionally Charlotte finds two sources of information about her nature with conflicting viewpoints, one from a long-time friend and one who was instantly suspicious to me yet who Charlotte also trusts; in fact she alternates between who she believes in an annoying fashion.
This book does bring up themes about love and being remembered. I think another reason that I didn't really hit it off with Charlotte is that I don't really want my name to be remembered when I'm dead. I hope to touch people's lives and help them but if they forget my name, I don't care. I did however identify with her desire to want her close family and friends to remember her, which they will not; her presence was already being slowly wiped from their memories. But I kind of feel like it's worth it to have touched them with love and grace during their lifetime.
KIND OF SPOILER: What's up with the ending?! It actually makes me interested in the sequel despite my disinterest in this book. END SPOILER
Overall: I was unable to connect with the characters and, despite the short length, I felt like it dragged.

Very interesting concept and beautifully written. Looking forward to getting my hands on the sequel.
This book was a really quick read, but was filled with suspense and I loved it!
This book was a total WOW for me! I loved it!
Charlotte has had these weird kind of psychic urges for as long as she can remember. Only now, they are intensifying in strength and frequency. When they hit, she feel drawn, ultimately, to a person. When she finds the person in question, she sees certain events from their point of view. This leads her to tell that person something they need to hear. Something that will give them closure. The odd part is that as soon as she delivers the message, that person immediately forgets her, like she was never there.
This story sucked me in so completely. I could feel the love between Charlotte and her boyfriend Harlin. Charlotte's unconditional acceptance of her best friend. Her love for her foster Mom and siblings was palpable. But what really got me were Charlotte's flashes when she is viewing a subjects life from their point of view. Suzanne Young's eloquence in these scenes was so emotionally powerful! I was reading this at work with tears just streaming down my face and trying to hide it so everyone wouldn't come over and ask what was wrong! Then add to that Charlotte not wanting to be forgotten...I tried to put myself in her shoes. Thinking how I would process the knowledge that everyone I knew and loved would eventually forget me...GAH! What an awful realization to have to live with.
I remember hearing a lot of hype about this story when it came out and it has been on my "to-read" list for quite a long time. I'm just so sorry I didn't get around to it until now! Suzanne Young is a gifted writer, she knows how to pull the emotions out of the reader. I will be rereading this beautiful story many, many times. Just loved it!

When I first picked up this book and started reading, I was a little unsure. I had seen a few reviews around Goodreads and Lisa @ Read Me Bookmark Me Love Me had told me how wonderful it was; even so, I went into this book with a little trepidation - and Suzanne Young proved my fears unfounded with the first few chapters! I was immediately swept into the story, and into the life of the main character, Charlotte.
Spoiler
Charlotte is, on the surface, a normal teenage: she goes to school. She hangs out with her best friend. She loves her boyfriend. But she also has the Need, a term she uses to describe the compulsions to help others, compulsions that wash over her randomly, leading her to complete strangers. If she ignores the Need, the symptoms - and the results - are not good. So Charlotte juggles her everyday life with her confusion over the Need, and the complications it creates. Charlotte is torn in two, and I really felt for her, and her struggle. She wants more time with Harlin, her boyfriend, but she has this other task to perform, and as the book continues, and she begins to understand more about the Need, and her destiny, my sympathy for Charlotte increased twofold.
I really came to love the premise of this book. It's definitely unique, and Suzanne Young did a really admirable job with the pacing of the book. I definitely did not get bored with the story that was unfolding. However, my heart absolutely broke for Charlotte, as she started to comprehend what being a Forgotten means: she will, in time, only exist to her Seer. Everyone she loves will eventually forget her, even those she has helped, whose lives she has changed. And her choice: embrace or deny that destiny, really gutted me.
I'm also anxious to see the sequel, because well, I loved several of the characters, including Monroe, Charlotte's doctor and friend, Alex, her adopted brother, Sarah, her best friend, and Harlin. Oh, Harlin. What can I say except WOW. I loved loved loved his devotion to Charlotte, and their relationship, to me, was really unique and heartfelt. I loved the extra special connection given to them in the latter part of the book. And I enjoyed the fact that these characters were well-developed, and not stereotypical.
I definitely need A Want So Wicked! This book was heart-pounding - literally - and so emotional at the end, that it brought me to tears. I finished it late one night and woke up thinking about it, and it has lingered with me. I think I wanted it to be a little longer, and to be a little more in depth on some of the history of the Forgotten and the Seers, etc, but overall, definitely a read to move up on your TBR list!

This reminded me of Shiver. Kinda like Charlotte, the whole book is this beautiful but tragic love story as the character basically is dying. I never continued the Shiver books, but at least with this second book it shows that the story isn't over, which allows me to have enjoyed this one and not completely cried my eyes out.
Ok. I like the concept as far as the supernatural stuff goes. And I appreciated that it wasn't too over the top with heavy-handedness (the title and the cover are misleading in that sense). Unfortunately, the parts that are supposed to believable in a real-life sense are just too far-fetched. I think it'll be most memorable to me because her skin falls off as she's turning gold.
