I loved the series at first. I was quiet a bit upset on the ending. There was way to much build up and then not enough BOOM!

I read this series when I was in middle school. I liked the characters, the writing, the concept....But it dragged on for far too many books, each one reusing the same plot synopsis each time. And after investing all this time into a series, we don't even get a definitive ending. Needless to say, I was mad.

Best vocabulary lessons ever. I thought The End was not entirely satisfying, with far too many mysteries left unresolved, either because there was no way to cram it into 13 chapters, or intentionally-which would fit with the series I suppose. A ridiculously fun series.

These books start out quirky and fun, but get a bit formulaic after a time. That said, I love the idea behind the story (three orphans, who experience a series of unfortunate--and unfortunately dark--events), and the way the author introduces a lot of above grade-level vocabulary in a very approachable way.

Found these an amusing read-aloud with Spriggles back in the day.
