A little disappointing but still good. I expected this book to be extraordinary because Moning seems to always write about Adam Black. it was still a good read but the ending is a little bittersweet. Because of the ending, my favorite book of the series, #3, also changes.
MINOR SPOILER
It still ends happily ever after but more like a regular mortal HEA. I like the immortal and magical HEA's.

I'm going to put it this way: there are two books left in the series, and I'm seriously considering not even finishing the series.
Here's the problem I have with these. I like [a:Karen Marie Moning|48206|Karen Marie Moning|https://d.gr-assets.com/authors/1424110162p2/48206.jpg]. The first books in this series weren't that bad. I LOVE her [b:Darkfever|112750|Darkfever (Fever, #1)|Karen Marie Moning|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1392579949s/112750.jpg|108558] and Fever series (up til it was restarted with [b:Iced|12444166|Iced (Fever, #6)|Karen Marie Moning|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1333022535s/12444166.jpg|17427104] but that's another conversation) so much. But this series... it feels like like the stories are just all over the place at first and then SEX! LUST! DESIRE!
Now, I willbe a perv be honest here, the lust between her characters is awesome. When that woman teases, she knows how to tease. The problem I have is that I like an actual story with my smut. The Highlander series fails to give me that.
Before now, I've been lenient and given three stars. I feel like I've betrayed how I really feel about the story and given stars based on the hot hotness of the hot men who are hot.
This time, I kind of got fed up by the lack of story. But I LOVE Adam. He is mischievous, devilish, charming, up to no good, but somewhere he is good and has a spot for humans. So to have him in this book... there were times I loved it and times I couldn't stand it (plot annoyance).
I was slightly annoyed by Gabrielle. I liked the fact that she was a Sidhe-seer and figured that would be a good twist since he is Tuatha De afterall, but herpitiful fight that was half hearted and I never took seriously, and just wanted to laugh at the whole time resistance to Adam annoyed me. It didn't feel real. It felt forced in because that's how you have to do it in these books apparently. Can we not anymore??
SIGH
I will probably end up finishing the series. There are, after all, only two books left. I've only kept reading because it does interlace with the Fever series so much. One thing I am glad about is that I read Darkfever before this series. If I hadn't, I probably would have never ended up being lustful over Barrons.
Thank goodness for small favors.

He thought he was beginning to understand. It wasn't symmetry of features; it wasn't perfection. It was uniqueness. That which one person had that no other possessed. That which was only their own. Perhaps Gabrielle's nose was like a thousand others, but they weren't on her face, with her eyes, with her cheekbones and hair. Nor were those noses graced with her many expressions, crinkling so charmingly when she laughed, flaring so haughtily when she was irritated.

Adam threw back his dead and laughed, eyes sparkling, with gold fire. "Bloody hell, it's good to be back," he purred.
I rate it 3.5 stars. Obviously, this was the type of book I was looking for for a long time...the fairy tale, almost suspenseful romance. It was enjoyable but frustrating at times because of the stubbornness of the female character, Gabrielle. I also found some parts hard to understand because I've never read a book by Karen Marie Moning before. Give that, this book was still pretty good and I wish I read the previous five.
Adam Black becomes human? Meh. I get he wanted a soul and a heart... But..... Story was good until the end.
Although she couldn’t help that but see them, Gabrielle had been warned all of her life to avoid Faeries. Warned of how they torture and kill mortals who can see them, but she just couldn’t resist looking at this one. Who could blame her, he was beautiful. Too bad he actually noticed her looking at him. Cursed with invisibility and the loss of his immortality, Adam Black thinks there is no hope of getting them back until he sees her and realizes she can see him. Now he just has to convince her that not all the Faery tales she has heard are true. Karen Marie Moning weaves a fast paced tale of romantic fantasy that leaves you wanting more.
The Immortal Highlander is absolutely, hands down, fight to the death over it, my favorite of all the Highlander romances by KMM.
And that's a hard statement to make, seeing as I've loved them all.
Adam is my favorite of the heroes and Gabrielle isn't one to go down without a fight in the face of danger.
