Changed my rating down to 2 stars for this and the 1st book after learning that many people who know more about the faith and deities portrayed in these books is harmful and inaccurate.

I enjoyed the sequel more than the first book, particularly the first third. I think the best parts of Natasha Bowen's writing are the descriptions and interactions with the orisa and other Mami Wata. Some of the other characters do not feel like they have enough depth of personality to carry the story. Similarly to the first book, I did not feel invested in Simi and Kola's relationship, and other related developments made the character seem more frustrating than multi-faceted. I also felt that this book left some loose ends--I wanted more resolution from Olokun's arc. Overall, this duology does a fantastic job incorporating West African mythology in the 15th century setting, but the characters do not feel as vivid as the world they inhabit.

Very cute, loved the continuation in relationships and plots from the previous book, made everything quite wholesome. The romance was so sweet, totally predicted the plot twist cl.
