Enjoyable little crime thriller. I liked the plot line set in the past. Although the focal point on the spookiness of the villa is important, I wouldn’t consider it gothic.

Love the Italian setting. I was into the storyline but I did not love the ending. It felt lackluster to me.

➤ A gripping slow-burn thriller told in two alternating timelines.
➤ I was very surprised by the unwinding of the mystery behind Pierce’s murder. Some events are foreseeable, but the ending is unexpected and brilliant.
➤ The story has a slow pace and it takes a while for you to fully immerse in it, but I did not feel uninterested.
➤ I enjoyed “The Villa” from top to bottom and I will for sure be on the lookout for Rachel Hawkins’s works.
