Good ideas but nothing earth shattering. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I was lucky enough to receive an advanced copy of the audio book...which is probably the best way to read this if you're stretched too thin! Listened to the whole thing on my commute. Very useful tips and encouragement...in some chapters I wish there were more personal anecdotes and less quotes from "experts", but maybe that translates better in the hard copy book. All in all, a very encouraging book for working moms who constantly feel the push and pull of being "everything to everyone".

This is the book I wish I had when I started my mom journey, not one (that I've been fortunate to get as a pre-release read) when I have a teenager. There are so many great ideas, helpful suggestions, and ways that Jessica shows she is right there in the trenches and really gets this topic.

The book is broken up into digestible bites - each on a different topic like marriage, parenting, organization, and self-care. She draws not just on her own experiences, but of moms she's surveyed and interviewed. She goes to great lengths to cover moms that aren't carbon copies of herself, so she considered night shift moms, single moms, and homeschooling moms.

This would be a great gift for a new mom as she goes back to work.

It’s refreshing to read a book of this type written by a working mom. A lot of these books are written by stay at home mom and their advice doesn’t all work for me. Jessica Turner gets the struggle of a working mom and the impossibility of giving every aspect of your life 100%.

What a great book. Stretched Too Thin was written as one working mom's love letter (and challenge!) to another. I found this book to be encouraging yet realistic. Jessica knows what it is like to be a working mom in a "regular" 9-5 office job... the good AND the bad. This book is full of lots of practical tips about topics from self care to home management (laundry, dishes, cooking, etc.), as well as tips for making your work life better (flexibility, boundaries, etc.) But I think the richness is the reminder that Jessica has for all of us about prioritizing faith, marriage, children, and friendship in the midst of "work." I thought the last chapter really summarized her heart behind the book so well! I also found the chapter and emphasis on goal setting to be inspiring.

I listened to the audiobook as part of the launch team (thanks to the publisher for that bonus!). I look forward to reading the physical book in the future so I can more easily journal through Jessica's thought-provoking questions at the end of each chapter.

The only issue I had with this book was related to some of the faith-based content. This is not a criticism of Jessica, her faith, or anything like that... more of a PSA. I am a Christian and my faith in Jesus is the most important thing in my life. When I heard about this book being published, as a working mom I was so excited! I did not necessarily think that it would be from a Christian perspective, but then I saw it was published by a Christian publisher (Revell). It is so good for the church (via a faith-based publisher) to support working moms! All that being said, I didn't agree with everything in the "spiritual self care" section. Mindfulness was talked about alot, and reading the Bible was mentioned but only after encouraging readers to read spiritual books like those by Ann Voscamp. It's hard to write a review and discuss this without coming across judgmental of Jessica's faith practices versus my own. There are so many factors to consider, and for all I know, she could have been more general to make her book resonate with more women. But I did want to mention that because it was the only part of the book that I didn't enthusiastically agree with.

I hope you read this book, gift it to your working mom friends, and are so encouraged by it!

Again, I was on the launch team and got to listen to it in advance thanks to a generous publisher but was not required to write a review, positive or otherwise. Thank you to all involved in the launch efforts! :)

I've followed Jessica Turner for a few years so when I first heard about this book, I was quite interested in it but wasn't sure if I would get much out of it. I thought actually that I wasn't feeling "stretched too thin" very often. I was definitely wrong - this book was quite full of insight into balancing things a bit better and letting go of some of the "mommy guilt" that is commonly felt if you are a mother who works away from your children in any capacity. I'd say that aspects of this would be applicable to those who aren't mothers as well, but it is primarily focused on parenting and relationships. It was a quick listen and there are worksheets to go with it, which are so helpful. There are religious undertones to all of her works but there is very little strong focus on that, at least in my opinion. Loved this book and needing to finish The Fringe Hours (which I never did finish). Also - this cover is so gorgeous :) (audio from Hoopla app)

While a lot of this information is not revolutionary, the reflection questions are such an incredible guide in determining if you are living the working m motherhood you want to be living instead of the one you think you should.

I enjoyed this quick read about making life manageable and even enjoyable while working full time as a mom. There were great opportunities for journaling as well and thinking through some daily processes.

Jessica does it again. Her books are relatable, important, and impeccably researched. I'll be pushing this one into the hands of every working mom I know!
Full disclosure: I'm on the launch team for this one so I got to listed to the audiobook early, but I also bought my own copy!
