I really do enjoy Emily Henry's books. Her writing is incredibly beautiful and has a very constant pace that makes it easy to follow the story. I was looking forward to this book! I managed to finish it during an outage where I live. I've heard so many people say this book was different for Emily Henry, which shocked me because it was so her in my opinion.
I kind of went blind into this book. I was aware of the main plot including two writers fighting for rights to a story, but everything else was a surprise. I definitely have read books like this, in which we get flashbacks and then chapters in the present. It was kind of like, reading two books at the same time and honestly I quite enjoyed that aspect.
The romance was a bit too insta love for me. I agree they were both charming in their own way and I guess when you know, you know? But at the same time I couldn't really tell why they were already so incredibly convinced that they couldn't live without the other. They were both likable, but at the same time (and this happens to me with almost every single one of her characters) they were just barely characterized. Like let's throw some humor and trauma and make them the stars of the show. I don't know. Her books always feel like there's something profound going on, but ends up feeling like we just scraped the surface of that. Maybe it’s me wanting to spend more time with the characters or something
