The first EmHen book I’ve read that I’ve rated under 4 stars and I honestly hate writing that but I pride myself on honesty. There is so much going on in this book. When I first started reading I felt a sense of deja vu… like I had read this or something so similar to it before and then it hit me: The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo! Except I gave Hugo 5 stars.
This story had so much potential to be more. I did cry at times because Emily does a great job of capturing humanity in all its beauty and ugliness. But there were so many times I just wanted the book to get to a point or end. There was a lot that felt unnecessary, not to mention anticlimactic. I never had that OMG moment I think she was going for.
Did I hate it. Absolutely not. I still enjoyed a good chunk of it. But did I love it like the stories I’ve come to expect from EmHen? Unfortunately, also no.
But read for yourself and make your own opinion! I do believe as a wonderful writer, Emily Henry deserves that.

I need to learn to not listen to Emily Henry at work so I can stop sobbing while making spreadsheets. An another amazing love story from her. While it still doesn't beat Funny Story, I did love this book and I devoured it like all of her novels.

Maybe 4.5…? Like the rest of us, I would read Emily Henry’s grocery list. This venture into a somewhat different genre was definitely ambitious but boy she didn’t miss. I loved both storylines & the way they pulled together to make a beautiful story about family and love lost and found. I think this maybe didn’t hit as hard for me as some of her others because I couldn’t relate to the family stuff as much BUT nonetheless it was incredible. the chemistry between Alice & Hayden, the Ives story.. all 10/10.

3.5 stars! This book was very slow at first and took me until probably 50% of the way through to really get into it. Was everything in the first 1/2 needed? Probably but it was very slow. The last 1/2 of the book was exactly what I have come to expect from Emily Henry and I throughly enjoyed it. I laughed and cried at the end and really started to care about the characters. I wish it had more of Cecil especially at the end after everything was figured out. Was this my favorite Emily Henry book no, but it was good.
