Am așteptat destul de mult timp să fac rost de această carte, mai ales după ce am auzit mai multe opinii pozitive care m-au făcut extrem de curioasă. Entuziasmul meu a fost, în mare parte, justificat: "Insula" chiar e o carte bună.
Ce mi-a plăcut cel mai mult a fost dinamica dintre Heather și copii. Mi s-a părut autentic faptul că relația lor nu pornește într-un mod idealizat – dimpotrivă, există distanță, neîncredere și chiar îndoieli serioase. Pe parcurs, însă, suferințele și pericolele prin care trec împreună creează o legătură reală și profundă, iar asta mi s-a părut una dintre cele mai reușite părți ale cărții.
În schimb, am simțit că anumite momente, în special punctul de cotitură legat de Tom, au fost destul de previzibile.
Chiar dacă am fost curioasă să aflu ce urmează, nu am simțit acel fior de panică sau tensiune profundă care m-ar fi făcut să trăiesc cu adevărat evenimentele alături de personaje. Cred că asta i-a lipsit cărții: o doză mai mare de suspans emoțional și de intensitate.
Totuși, "Insula" e o lectură care prinde – m-a ținut în priză și mi-a plăcut sentimentul că învățam, pe parcurs, și câteva tehnici de supraviețuire. Povestea mi s-a părut relativ originală, iar personajul Heather mi-a plăcut în mod deosebit.

LOVED this one. heart pounding, edge of your seat thriller all the way through. unpredictable, which is what i love in thrillers. can't recommend this one enough.

This book seriously stressed me out but in a good way. The writing is super solid and kept me hooked the whole time. At first, I didn’t really like any of the characters, which made it hard to connect, but by the end they kind of grew on me. Petra really stood out for me, she’s so brave, and I ended up really liking Heather too. Tom, on the other hand, I didn’t trust from the start.
The story had me on edge all the way through and I couldn’t stop reading even when I felt super anxious. The ending was great and wrapped things up well. I’m curious about Ma and how the island family came to be, would’ve loved more background there. The character development was definitely a highlight.
Overall, glad I read it but I wouldn’t pick it up again. I heard it’s being made into a show and honestly I’d probably check that out. Solid thriller, just not something I’d reread.

This book took me on a ride and reminded me of the horror books by Richard Laymon. It was definitely more grisly than most of the thrillers I have read.
I really like the overall plot. Being trapped on an island with a psycho family always ends up being a good time. It was action-packed and pretty fast-paced. I found myself getting anxiety before new chapters. There weren't many twists, but I was okay with that.
The only negative I had was some of the one-liners were awful. Especially when the author starts talking about farts. It went a bit too far for me. There are some triggers in this book so look them up before reading.
