Taylor Swift songs: “Sparks fly”!!!

Why have I not seen anyone talk about this before?? It’s so underrated!  I love the concept of Heartbreak for Hire, where women pay her to get revenge on men, ex. Their exes or bosses who screwed them over, etc. I support women’s rights, and women’s wrongs… this was very witty and funny as well as very cute and heartwarming. I always love a good enemies to lovers with forced proximity and tons of banter!! There was also a lot of depth to Brinkley’s character, as she tries to navigate a mother with high standards as well as her own past relationship trauma. I really liked both of the main characters, lots of tension, and loads of chemistry. We love a hot Professor type!! (Not her professor, just a professor) a man in an argyle sweater?? Yes please.

I think this was a very bingeable book, you could definitely read it in one or two sittings. It was very upbeat/lighthearted. and really kept you interested, without any of the unnecessary filler that many books can have. Overall, I really enjoyed my time reading this book, and I would recommend!!

Age rating: 16+ (a few brief spicy scenes, about Emily Henry level spice, maybe 2/5🌶️)

Overall Thoughts:
⁕ The concept of this book had so much promise. An agency dedicated to seeking revenge for scorned lovers promised a unique stage for the romance of our two main characters to play out. Most of their significant encounters took place outside of this setting, though -- leaving me with a sense of disappointment and general lacking.

⁕ Using the Brinkley's mother as source of conflict outside of the romance allowed character development beyond the stereotypical relationship drama in every rom com. It was enjoyable, but there still could have been more of it.

⁕ I listened to the audiobook, and the narrator's choices devalued the story being told. What should have been serious, tender moments ended up being lessened by goofy acting choices and over the top silliness.
