Haven't read Nolan in awhile and I enjoyed this HEA for Fiona, Roxy from Strictly Professional's younger sister and the odd one out in her punk rock family. With her lists and plans and love for spreadsheets, I thought for sure she had to be a Virgo but her birthday is apparently in November so she's either a Scorpio or a Sagittarius which just doesn't compute. But back to her lists - she's had a list she's been crossing off since high school and the last item is to get married before 30 but she's dated 5 guys in the last year - and she's got a spreadsheet to keep track - none of them for long enough to develop something meaningful, so she decides the thing she needs to kick things up a notch is to write a contract and re-commit herself to her search - and we all know how that works out.
Her perfect guy turns out to be Max, who she's known since she was a kid and he's everything she thinks she doesn't want, but of course, she's wrong. Max has baggage growing up as a child of divorce with a mother who's a rolling stone and he thinks he's just like her, but he's more like his grumpy father than he realizes...and how his father loves him is the sweetest.

Kathryn Nolan knows how to write a LOVE story. If you want swoony, big-hearted feelings mixed with filthy fantastic dirty talk, then Ms. Nolan is the writer for you.
Max and Fiona captured me from their first interaction on the fire escape and I followed their should we / shouldn’t we dance eagerly. Fiona is the Type A, buttoned-up lawyer with a secret inner wild girl, and she has plans to be married before she turns thirty. Surely her contracts and spreadsheets will lead her to the man she’ll spend the rest of her life with?
Then in walks Max. The anti-Prince Charming with a heart of gold under his tattooed chest, who never makes a plan that lasts longer than a night.
And when they come together: fireworks.
Of course, she should resist him, she has a plan that doesn’t include men who leave.
Of course, he should resist her, he doesn’t do plans or roots or anything that ties you down.
And then, love steps in.
This story is full of characters who leap off the page (and the stage); community and family that remind you of the good in the world; and a love of music that will have your feet tapping in time. Not the Marrying Kind is a love story for the ages.

The Falling for the Bad Boy Kind

I’m a big fan of Kathryn Nolan and this book was another great story!

In the beginning, it was strongly in the 4 star range. It took a while to go into the groove, but once it did I LOVED IT!!! Cute storyline with awesome supporting characters. This book is full of relatable feelings, steamy chemistry, hot scenes, loving families, and embracing our differences to better our village

This is my first Kathryn Nolan book, and it definitely won’t be my last.

I loved Max and Fiona. She was such a firecracker and she was so well rounded. I loved watching her grow. I also loved how deep Max was. Here he is, this tattooed biker who’s constantly getting caught smelling Fiona’s hair. It was precious.

I will say though, he seemed a little less ‘manly’ than I’m used to. And I don’t mean that in a toxic masculinity expectations kind of way...even though maybe that is a tiny bit of it. He’s just very in touch with his feelings. His inner monologue is very aware and sensitive. I’m not complaining about that, but most of the men I know are a little more simple. It was a little unexpected.

The one complaint I had with this book is that it really feels like it should be part of a stand alone series. I loved hearing about Edward and Roxy, but there were a lot of things I felt like I was just supposed to know. Don’t get me wrong...I intend to read Strictly Professional very soon because these two were awesome. But I really felt like I should’ve read it first and I didn’t even know about it beforehand because this is listed as a standalone.

Overall though, I loved this book. I recommend it to any and all romance lovers. It’s well written and the characters are strong and believable. The sequence of events works and the pacing is perfect. There are also some fantastic one liners and scenes that will stick with you.

Perfection.

This opposite attracts romance delivers on every freaking level. Irresitible bad-boy (Max - check). Smart/Sassy beautiful heroine (Fiona - check), swoon moments (too many to lists), wonderfully written diverse characters (check, check, check), a kick-ass soundtrack that will have you singing and dancing while you read (hells yeah).

The chemistry between Fiona and Max will have you curled up under the covers late at night fanning yourself. Watching them slowly peel away each objection to their attraction is a joy to behold. She is from a world of spreadsheets and plans, he from the world of spontaneity and no-committments. Yet they are perfect together. Everyone knows this but them.

This super fast paced joy of a novel will put a permanent smile on your face as you race through it to the epic finale and epilogue. This heart hitting treasure delivers and delivers and then delivers even more. I dare you to find a more perfect love story. Perfection.
