I really liked Grayson's story, but Jameson's bored me to tears. I almost DNF'ed this one.

While I loved Avery, getting to follow two of the Hawthorne brothers was an absolute treat! We got to see glimpses of their past, and experience what it was like growing up as the grandsons of Tobias Hawthorne. How they were trained and tested, and the bonds they formed with each other.

Both Jameson and Greyson have their own tasks to complete. Jameson has to find a way to gain his way into an elite, secret club known as the Devil's Mercy, with the help of Avery. A task given to him by his father, the son of a duke who's managed to gamble away his ancestral home, Vantage. Jameson is expected to gain access not only to the Devil's Mercy, but to the annual game, with a prize that allows you to choose one item that's come into the club's possession.

Meanwhile, Greyson has made a promise to himself to watch over his half-sisters. Hopefully from a distant, without them realizing who he is to them. When one of his sisters is arrested, he hurries to bail her out, only to find that Sheffield Greyson has left them without resources, and under the scrutiny of the FBI. Greyson has to find a way to help clear them of any suspicion, while also making sure they don't learn of his death, or how it ties back to Avery.

Xander and Nash won't let their brothers struggle on their own, even if neither has asked for help. That's not the Hawthorne way.

Getting to meet Savannah and Gigi, Greyson's half-sisters, as well as Acacia, their mother who is only too willing to welcome him into their family - is a special treat. These three women add a whole other dynamic to the Hawthorne group, one I didn't think I needed until I saw it. Plus, getting to see all the brothers together, from inside the group, was such a treat!

Meanwhile, Eve is making it clear that she's not about to let Greyson walk out of her life. And she isn't done with Avery yet, either.

It's hard to say if I enjoyed this book more than the original Inheritance Games trilogy, or if I just loved how refreshing the new perspective was. It changed the feel of the novel so much, while keeping you in the same world. I can't wait to see what the next book will bring!

this book ate. until it didn’t.

please don’t tell me this is going to be a nine book series because there is already five books and its just tiring to read at this point. the only person who could really pull off a nine book series is Sarah J Maas. this is just dragging on.

things i didn’t like with the whole series:
- dead girlfriend

this was a pretty good book! oh grayson

Last summer I dnfed this book because I got bored and then I got sick but I decided to give it another shot. But… long story short I was disappointed. I LOVED the Inheritance Games trilogy but this book felt forced.. kinda pointless. Grayson and his sisters are the only reason I rated it what I did. I throughly enjoyed Grayson’s part of the story with his sisters and trying to protect Gigi and Savannah while simultaneously trying to protect Avery. But Jameson’s part of the story just felt pointless to me. I just don’t think Jameson’s part was interesting or important.

“Some of us exist just a little too loudly for the comfort of those who would prefer we did not exist at all”

Jennifer Lynn Barnes, I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, is a literature genius! I will always love her works and I’m obsessed with this series!

The Brothers Hawthorne based solely on Grayson and Jameson’s storylines. I loved that both storylines followed their fathers/paternal family.

I have always been #TeamJameson but always had a love for Grayson. This book made me fall in love with Grayson so much more! It should the character’s vulnerabilities, his interaction with his sisters and the love for his paternal family! I loved his relationship with Gigi, who is quickly becoming a favourite character of mine and who reminded me of Xander in this book!

Jameson’s storyline of finding his father and then being betrayed but eventually finding familial love with his paternal uncle was everything that we needed to round the series up. The plot twist of the secret being revealed at the end makes me hope that the storyline comes out in future books. And the introduction of the spin-off series was *chef’s kiss*

I look forward to reading the next series and undoubtedly loving the rest of Jennifer Lynn Barnes’ works! 4.5⭐️
