A Dog's Purpose was a much more heart-wrenching dog book, but this was decent. Marley reminded me a bit of Loki and made me sad for when Loki eventually gets old.

The funniest and saddest book I have ever read. John Grogan is a real bastard for making me laugh and cry so damn hard and he's amazing

I picked this book up on Tuesday and finished it on Wednesday. Never before has a book made me cry and laugh as much as Marley and Me did. Grogan captures the mannerisms and behavior of Marley in a way I wouldn't have thought possible. Any one who owns a dog can relate to this story, and Grogans descriptions are vividly identifiable. Marley and Me has easily and appropriately made its way to my list of favorite books - not necessarily for its literary complexity, but for its ability to warm the heart, its tenderness, and its endearing message. Marley the dog was the worst dog in the best ways. And as Grogan points out as he recognizes Marley's aging, life isn't about reaching the destination - it's all about the journey. The journey the Grogan family took with Marley as a member was beautiful. Keep a box of tissues handy for the last thirty pages. And give your four legged best friend a hug and scratch behind the ears - he/she deserves it.

It really does make you laugh out loud and cry buckets. No escaping that :)

Good read. Made me laugh and cry.

This is a great book. If you own a dog, you will love the book. It may not be a completely happy book, but it is a story I can relate to.

I read this because I wanted to take my Mom to see the movie on Christmas (she is a big fan). After finishing it, I had to buy the book for my best friend because she has a black lab (who was once on puppy Prozac!). The stories are hilarious and I think even a cat lover (like myself) will enjoy it.

The writing style didn't appeal to me at all.
