3.82 AVERAGE

As this book was aimed at such a young audience I didn't really have high expectations. I found the novel very engaging and well written though, it was fast paced, and the dystopian setting was very believable. I look forward to reading the other books in the series.

Loved the direction this book went. Curious to see how the story ends.

When your life is illegal, how do you live?

4.25 stars.
This was a really short and fast-paced read. So short the ending happened and I was like "wait...whaaa???". I'll definitely be continuing this. Jen's sass gives me life.

So, I liked this book a little more than my kid did. Maybe it's because she had to read it for class and she doesn't like being told what to do, maybe it's because she's in 5th grade, maybe it's the style of writing...I don't know. I just know that as a parent and the eldest of three, I really identified with the dilemmas being raised in this book and I appreciate the ways that Haddix goes about addressing them.
