The Devouring Gray ★★★☆☆
The Deck of Omens ★★★☆☆

Like the first book, The Deck of Omens has so many pieces that I really like, but the execution of trying to fit those pieces together is clunky. I liked May's character getting explored more, but unfortunately that left Justin in the dust. Isaac is definitely my favorite character though mostly because he reminds me of other characters I love. In general I feel like there was too much going on plot-wise and not enough character development for my tastes. In the end, both book one and book two were enjoyably diverting audiobooks to listen to, but not much more than that. I do still think this duology would make for a fun TV show, and since Disney owns the rights I imagine we'll see one sooner or later.

Definitely a case of "I wanted to love this but this just isn't anything special."

I did really enjoy the concepts behind the Grey and the Beast and the whole history of how things came to be, but I think I would have preferred a story from the point of view of the actual Founders.

I didn't really hate many things about this, but I also didn't love anything either. Very meh. The "romance" sub plots were completely unnecessary and had they been removed, my enjoyment would have increased by at least 0,5 stars.

In the end, I don't have much to say about this. At least it was a quick read? I appreciate what the author was going for but not the actual execution? I don't know, so we'll leave it at that.

The Deck of Omens var en bra bok.

This duology is just so much fun, I loved experiencing it, and I loved the characters. Are there plotholes and inconsistencies? Maybe. But did they bother me? No, they did not. It is so much fun and such dark, chilly and quick-paste, so athmospheric that I just loved to be in the middle of it. And the second book is just as much fun as the first one. So yeah.
