The story overall was okay, I found the mystery plot interesting and it is what kept me reading. The atmosphere also really good but I think the first one was better in that aspect. The writing was good and I found I enjoyed the style. It is set in a small town which I liked and the powers were good. I also didn’t get pulled into this story as much as I did the first book. Again the book has multiple POVs which jump and it can make it hard to follow until you get used to it.

The Characters were okay but I really couldn’t connect to them. There is still diversity in the book with bisexual characters and other LGBTQ characters which I loved. I just didn’t connect to them and I didn’t enjoy the relationships in the book at times and the characters sometimes annoyed me.

It’s hard to say what else I thought as it was just one of those books that was okay. It is probably a me thing as I know a lot of people will really enjoy this book. I just think I’m not as interested in YA Fantasy anymore.

This is the sequel to The Devouring Gray. In Fourth Paths it must be saved. The beast has been subdued, however a new danger lurks.
I was so confused about who the characters were and how far in time this takes place from The Devouring Gray. I really should have reread The Devouring Gray before reading this, but it is okay. It was a good read still and I still enjoyed the characters and the stuff they faced.

APRIL 2021 UPDATE:
It has been revealed that Christine Lynn Herman took part in the targeted harassment and abuse of other authors within the community, alongside Emily A. Duncan. This information—coupled with the extremely poor apology (read: there was zero accountability and it was not a genuine apology whatsoever) that was provided—leaves me no longer comfortable reading, recommending, or supporting this author.

I am leaving my review, which contained my initial thoughts, up here for the sake of personal accountability. To anyone who was harmed or experienced trauma as a result of me sharing this series, or this review, I can only offer my largest and most sincere apologies.

Thank you Hachette Book Group Canada for providing me with an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

"And after years of people looking at him like he was broken, it was a relief bigger than words to know someone else understood that healing did not mean going back to the way things had been before. It meant transforming into someone new and accepting that person, sharp edges and all."

My full review can be found here!

We love disaster bisexuals and creepy woods that like to take root (literally) under people’s skin and processing grief and trauma. And also undead cats.

Good gosh I just love all of these characters so much and this was a perfectly satisfying ending to the series.

4.5 stars, rounding up. The audiobooks of this series are delightful.

So chilling and haunting. Definitely a spoopy book and a great pick for Halloween time.

This was an exciting conclusion to The Devouring Gray duology and I enjoyed returning to Four Paths and especially to these characters. The Gray and the woods are as creepy and atmospheric as ever and if you thought everything was back to normal after the end of the first book, you’re in for a surprise. Things are just getting started.

Absolutely my favorite parts are that we get to spend so much time with Isaac (love him) and that May plays a much larger role in this book than she did in the first one. Plus, we learn so much about the Founding Families, Four Paths, the beast and the Gray itself, I was delighted to get so much back story.

There are times that the pacing in this lulls and it was easy to feel as though you were lost in the Gray itself while trying to unpack what was happening in the story and where it was going. However, I feel as though the last quarter or so of the book makes up for this well, especially as all of the pieces fall together.

Needless to say, I’m greatly looking forward to seeing what Herman has in store for us next and absolutely look forward to reading her upcoming novel with Amanda Foody.

4.5 stars

This book was a great conclusion to the duology and a perfectly spooky, magical read for October. If you haven’t checked this series out definitely do!

I look forward to reading more of Christine Lynn Herman’s books in the future.

Wasn't my favorite read and took awhile to get through it. It felt like a lot of build up for a lot of ... nothing.
