This started out strong with an intriguing mystery element, and I didn’t see the twist coming until right before it was revealed. But the ending left me disappointed—too many loose ends and unanswered questions. The “Her (Then)” chapters were confusing; I assumed they were Maddie, only to find out they were Paris (Gia’s sister). But then her assistant says Gia’s family was from Germany… so was that story even real, or did I miss something?
I also felt the second half of the book veered off in a completely different direction than what was advertised. I picked this up because of the therapy house setting, but we were barely there at all. Instead, we ended up with a wild revenge plot that didn’t quite fit, and Noelle’s character especially frustrated me. She was so gullible—ready to believe the worst and jump straight to revenge and murder without even having a conversation with her partner.
‼️‼️One important note: this book includes heavy mentions of SA and a somewhat graphic suicide. There are no trigger warnings in the description or at the start, and while it didn’t personally trigger me, it easily could for others. Readers should be aware going in.
Overall, it had potential and a strong start, but the messy second half and lack of closure made it a frustrating read.
If you’re going to take a chance on this, I do recommend the audio. I mostly listened to this one while following along on kindle. ( it’s available on KU with audio )
This was my first book by Lucinda Berry and even though I wasn’t a fan of this one, I still want to explore her other bookS.

This book is probably my least favorite book out of the books that I have read by Lucinda. However, it was still a decent read. I couldn't connect with the characters real well and i found myself getting bored at certain parts, which in my opinion, shouldn't be happening since it is a short book. But, I did like how certain topics in the story were handled. And the overall plot of it. It did just enough to keep me invested. And it's a quick read. So if you don't like it, then at least you aren't spending a lot of time on it.
