Finally finished it....
I am honestly a bit disappointed. "The red queen" was amazing. I devoured that book during my exams. I was so in love with it, that I started "Glass sword" almost immediate. But that book, sent me in a slump. A month of not reading anything. I dnf'd it, read other books and then completed it. As my reviews say, only the last 40% of that book was good. Having a not so good experience with the book 2, i gave my self more than 1 month before starting "king's cage".
I was worried, that I'll go in a slump. But I knew I had to finish it, so I kept pushing myself to read it. But I feel that the book was sooooooo dragged. Like come on, I can live without a few details about what everyone is wearing. Not just this, the book on a whole felt a bit stretched. The writer could have easily finished it in less pages.
The only good part of this book are the last 50 or so pages. They were sooo good, reminded my of why I started this series in the first place. And I loved them. From the moment they land in Corvium ( i hope I'm writing the correct spellings

I was LOVING this until the end then I was so sad 😢 I hate when the plot does go how my head has written it 🙄😂
The plot in this evolved brilliantly! The twists and turns kept things interesting - it did lull a bit in the middle - and kept the story moving forward with something more to come without it being unrealistic or forced.
I kept changing my mind on Mare, if she was annoying and dumb or badass. Prisoner Mare, annoying. Warrior Mare, brilliant. Upset with Cal Mare, annoying as hell - it also doesn’t help the chemistry build.
The ‘found family’ was brilliant, really enjoyed the diversity of the characters and the different POVs offered different perspectives on the same characters which was interesting to read.
Loving the tension, loving the deceit, hate the separation of Cal & Mare!

This book is mostly filler. Mare is captured for 50% of the book. It’s very much setting up for what’s needed in the final book. And she was only captured so you could see Maven’s side and what’s going on there. Aveyard does write good battle scenes and I found myself devouring it in the last part of the book. I personally don’t want or think Maven can be redeemed, but it does add to Cal’s character he’s trying to get his little brother back. There’s so much politics in a way I didn’t expect for a YA book and is particularly heavy in this one. I like the insight into Evangeline and her family, and I’ll never protest to lesbianism. Farly is even more badass and I loved how Mare was rescued right before she gave birth so Mare could meet her niece. The first half is slow, and brutal. Warnings for torture both physical and psychological. I am interested in how the world gets concluded and how such deep class divides get fixed when so many silvers aren’t willing to budge but the Scarlett guard is so strong. Definitely a filler book that’s long and slow but still made up of good writing.
