Honestly, I was like addicted to the first two books but this was just dragging along. Also the ending? Why would Mare feel betrayed by Cal? He also didn’t know the plan and she gave him no time to think and kind of ambushed him just to break up with him.
I am undecided if I like the different perspectives. It wasn’t something I expected but I liked then insights to Evangeline.

4 stelle. NO SPOILER!

This book was fine. I’m still enjoying the series as a whole, but this one doesn’t really stand out to me compared to the first two. I feel like it dragged on a little. And also I don’t love the split perspective chapters, especially when such a high percentage of them were Mare’s chapters anyway.

I simply do not understand why Mare feels betrayed by Cal. He was supposed to be king now for like three books and she's shocked that he's accepting the throne? It's just SO not surprising girlfriend. I feel like the author just felt the need to give *season finale* with the end of the 3rd book but honestly it was unnecessary.
This series/the MC's behavior are such a paradox. Mare suddenly shifted from being a selfish b*tch to a self-righteous b*tch who hates when people are selfish. I love the personal growth but sweetie...let's hold back on the harsh judgement.
On a positive note, what's keeping me really interested in the story is that the stakes are so high, which is refreshing to see in a YA book. The world-building, while cringey at times, is actually really thorough - we have a really great understanding of the dynamics between the Reds/Silvers and the high houses after reading just the first book, and from there it just serves to strengthen the story.

I have been trying soooooooo hard to get on board with this book, but it just isn't happening, it is time to break up.
Mare, I don't get you, I don't like you and I just can't waste the mental capacity it takes to try anymore. It's not me, it's you.
And I also don't really like the new POV thing, I didn't like Cameron before, and I don't like her very much now.
May try again, someday.

The first part of the book is slow and it took me long to get hooked on it. However, when I was mid-book deep I couldn't put it down. I kept biting my lower lip towards the last chapters, in tension for what was going on, up until the very end of the book. Can't wait for the next one.
