I really liked this book. I read as long as I could up until bedtime a few nights in a row, and then kept waking up in the middle of the night to think about the book. I wonder how it would be to reread it, if it still packs a punch now that I know what happens.
I wondered if I would tire of the imprisonment scenario, since I've read a couple other books lately with a similar set up, but it stayed interesting enough. Then the next part was delightful, a lovely respite and then back to exciting, which this series does so well. I liked the pacing of this book in particular. (The second book had me stressing!)
Now I'm about to start the final book, and I will say that throughout this book, I started worrying: If this series ends with Cal on the throne with E as his wife, and Maven restored and back together with Mare... Then by my colors!

i cant believe i waited so long to read this. for a series marketed as YA, this was an intense read - from Mare's captivity and the psychological impact of that, to the war (child soldiers, anyone?). And Montfort's plan
Very slow and uneventful beginning , but it did get better toward the end.
