Re-read in preparation for War Storm (book 4 in the series), but I got bored with it. Aveyard has a way of taking a long time to say things and it got tedious. I'm putting aside the fourth book for awhile until I'm ready for it; I may revisit this one in parts at that point.

Pretty slow in the beginning, but overall, I liked this booked more than Glass Sword!

DID NOT FINISH

Once again, I'm giving up on this series. I forced myself to try again, but I just could not maintain any interest in the characters or events.

Omg I'm so speechless like what the heck just happened?!?!

That was so heartbreaking that ending and ugh I now have to wait for another year. But I can say this book was much better than Glass Sword.

I think the story finally started picking up for me in book 3. Mare is essentially a war prisoner to Maven, who he keeps locked up in silent stone. I really like how he uses Mare as propaganda - and having read this in 2025 I can't help but see the parallels to our political climate. I really liked how we were able to see exactly how twisted Maven is, and how badly his mom f*cked him up. I was hoping for a redemption arc but I don't think we're going to get one.

This was enjoyable, but I think I'm reading this series during a slump because I have been struggling to get through this series. I think it's definitely good, just can't seem to get into it.
