Actually 3.5 stars.

The Folcroft Ghosts skews younger than the other Darcy Coates books I've read, with teenage protagonists Tara and Kyle, but it doesn't leave off the scares because of it. Sent to stay with their never-before-met grandparents after their mother was in a serious car accident, Tara and Kyle slowly realize that something is very wrong at Folcroft House. Is it ghosts? Is it their strange grandparents? Trapped in a house out of town with no way to contact the outside world, all Tara and Kyle have is each other, as things get creepier and scarier as time goes on. It's a ghost story for teens and adults.

Rating: 4/5 stars

Even if I don't love the ending of some of Darcy Coates's stories, she always manages to create a chilling atmosphere. The Folcroft Ghosts was no exception. From the start of the book, I felt uneasy and spooked even before anything weird actually happened. The plot of the story was interesting, and reminded me of a more tame version of M. Night Shyamalan's The Visit. Right away the surprises pulled me in and I wasn't sure if I could trust the grandparents or not. The children's roles were interesting, and while neither Tara nor Kyle were overly complex characters, there was enough there to want them to remain unharmed. Darcy Coates's books always fly by when I'm reading them, so this was a quick read with good pacing of the plot. My main issue with the book was certain parts or reasonings just didn't make sense. The ending of this book was somewhat unexpected and more sinister than I had anticipated. Final verdict was that this was a pretty good, spooky story. It is a quick read so if you are wavering whether to read this or not, it isn't much of a time investment.

This is the first book by this author I read and I suppose it's actually a novella.  I didn't find it scary but it had a nice mystery going on and I was fully immersed.   All in all, a nice  quick read. I will be checking out more of her titles.

Great book but just wished it was a little more creepy.

Great read

Kept me guessing until the end. Well put together and a great horror story, read it in the dark alone.

I loved it

Such a great read!! I kept turning the pages wanting to know if the may and Peter were actually ghosts from the beginning but they ended up towards the end, may was already dying. I hope she makes a sequel of this book I would love to hear more of what happens when the mother gets better and what will the mother say after she found out about her kids staying at the folcroft house.
