Slightly better than Virtual Light, Idoru suffers from the same core issue as its predecessor: why is any of this happening and who cares? I was interested until the final fourth, where it just becomes gibberish. Gibson can’t seem to pull it together in a satisfactory way.

The ending actually creeped me out substantially, but it was excellent.

I read in a few places that it wasn't absolutely critical to read the Bridge books in order, but I wonder if I was misled because I felt confused a lot of the time. I did keep thinking WOW THIS IS SO COOL but ultimately none of the characters felt quite feel real to me--and wow there were so many of them. Three stars for the excellent Vibes.
