DNF on page 371 of 532. I tried, but there is absolutely no reason for this book to be as long as it is, and it is taking me forever to read! It's repetitive. I wonder if I'm falling out of love with 19th century classics :(. So many of them, especially French novels, discuss the same themes: class and social climbing, seduction, manipulation, the rise or downfall of the protagonist. This book is no different. Just read "Tartuffe," and "Manon Lescaut," which Stendhal was inspired by. Julien also struck me as an inconsistent character.
