I picked this book up because the title made me laugh. By the time I had finished looking at the cover and reading the blurb I was in hysterics.
So I knew it'd be funny- likely a fun little romp- but what I didn't anticipate was how awesome the illustrations would be (perfectly and creatively interacting with the text) and how great the characters and their story would be.
Fun and funny, yes, but also sweet, brave, thought-provoking and SMART!
This is a great read-aloud or beginner book for all kids- AND their adults!

Astra perheineen on muuttamassa Nova Mundiin, maailmaan, johon matkaaminen Maasta kestää peräti 199 vuotta.

Kokonaisuutena ihan kiva kirja, jota on hauska lukea. Kuvitus tukee tarinan etenemistä ja lisää siihen omia mausteitaan. 3,5 tähteä 3 tähteen.

Great art and inquisitive and fun main character. A little slow in the middle, but silly and dramatic enough beginning and ending to make up for that.

Viktig lærdom om at datamaskiner tar kommandoer bokstavelig - stor fornøyelse for 7-åringen (og hans mor).

My son plucked this randomly from the library shelf and it ended up being a really fun read. A girl and her family are traveling to a new planet and things go haywire when the girl, astra, orders the ultimate cake from a machine called the nom-o-tron. The machine churns out some crazy cakes that come alive leading to unexpected adventures. This was silly fun and a fast read. Appropriate for 5 and up,

Super cute! I don't think I've ever heard about a children book which is also a classic sci-fi story.
If I had children, I would definitely read it to them. As a child-less adult, I still found it very enjoyable.

I really liked this until we got to the insensitive Ganesh-inspired Broknar. Also, there is this part when Astra first meets the alien Poglites:

"The first alien looked down and twiddled one of the dials on the front of his dirty spacesuit. Or was it a her? It was hard to tell, but he seemed sort of bossy, so Astra decided he must be a boy." - p. 105
