This story was so unique with its magic system, and use of vessels & spirits.

Our story follows FMC Nizzara, a princess training to compete in the kings duel. However, she experiences massive amounts of betrayal from the people she loved most, while never faltering with her loyalty.

Then we have our MMC, King Dagen (dae). He is a death walker, working to bring souls to his death god. Nil, the death god strikes a deal with Dagen to bring him the pure soul, and he will be free from Nil. But if he fails, it’s his soul that will no longer exist.

However, when our pure soul & Dagen meet, it becomes a fight to save both souls.

We have a VERY slow burn, literally no kisses until 82%, so buckle up!

I also felt so badly for Nizzaras character, and the betrayal and hatred she experienced. To be treated so poorly by everyone in her life, yet still show love, compassion and kindness just warmed my heart.

Overall, I did enjoy this book! I think at sometimes it was a bit dull, but I still was eager to know the outcome.

This felt like a real slog, it took me over a week to read which is well below pace for me.

✅ The magic system was unique and interesting so I was excited going into this. This is where the excitement ends.

❌ The world building was just so confusing, I feel like too much was introduced too vaguely. This is surprising considering the whole book takes place in maybe 4 rooms.

❌ I guess I don’t really like reading duel scenes which made up approx 40% of this book. I’m not sure what else really happened.

❌ I don’t really feel anything for any of the characters which is rare given my usual parasocial relationships with fictional characters.

Honestly not sure I will continue this series which would make it my first series dnf.

I cannot take the story seriously with the names of things. The idea is cool but omg needed an editor.

Unfortunately it’s just 3 stars. It started out really strong, I honestly thought that it was going to be a 5 star read. In the first half I understood everything, then in the second half it got sloppy and messy. The world building was all over the place. The plot twist at the end was kind of underwhelming. The romance was meh at best, with a “spicy scene” that was just… there. I didn’t really feel a connection with the MCs. It was kind of a waste of my time, which is really sad cause it is a really hyped-up book, but now I start to realize that “hyped-up” does not automatically mean it’s going to be good.
