4.5*- I'm a vibe reader, I enjoy good storylines and relatable characters and once i find something that works I'm hooked. Started it right after Quicksilver and for a short time it felt similar ( gave Quicksilver 3*), but then it turned out to be a lovely read, beautifuly put together, frankly one of the best I came across recently. I love the magic system and the backstory. If you loved Daughter of No World's and One Dark Window, you'll love this one.

It was so good! The magic system is so different from anything i’ve read before and was so captivating! I loved the banter between the FMC and MMC. Cortney did such a great job, she just sucks you right in! And that ending! Can’t wait for more!!
I loved this book it was a slow start but once it got going it never stopped, I wish there was more, Cortney did an amazing job bringing these characters to life and I can't wait for the next one!
"Vesselless" by Cortney L. Winn is a breath of fresh air in the romantasy genre, offering a unique and captivating magic system that sets it apart from the crowd. The story follows Nizzara, a princess with extraordinary spirit-perception abilities, as she enters a deadly tournament to escape an unwanted betrothal. Alongside her is Dagen, a charming half-ghost with his own agenda, creating a dynamic that crackles with tension and possibility.
Winn's magic system, centered around vessels and spirit magic, is both innovative and intriguing. The concept of channeling spirits and the addictive nature of this power adds depth to the world-building and raises the stakes for our characters. It's refreshing to see a magic system that feels genuinely new in a genre that can sometimes rely on familiar tropes.
The plot moves at a breakneck pace, with twists and turns that kept me guessing until the very end. The tournament setting provides a perfect backdrop for both action and character development, as Nizzara grapples with her fears of power and her growing connection to Dagen. Their relationship is complex and layered, fraught with conflicting loyalties and secrets that make their interactions all the more compelling.
What truly stands out is the unpredictability of the story. Just when you think you know where things are headed, Winn throws a curveball that changes the game entirely. This unpredictability, combined with the fast pace, made "Vesselless" a book I couldn't put down.
While the romance aspect is present and well-developed, it doesn't overshadow the rich fantasy elements and personal growth of the characters. Nizzara's journey of self-discovery and her struggle with the temptation of power add depth to her character beyond just her romantic entanglements.
If I have one critique, it's that sometimes the pacing can be a bit too frantic, leaving little room for quieter moments of reflection or world-building. However, this is a minor quibble in an otherwise engrossing read.
Overall, "Vesselless" is a standout entry in the romantasy genre, offering a unique magic system, unpredictable plot, and compelling characters. It's perfect for readers looking for something fresh and exciting in their fantasy romance. I'm eagerly looking forward to seeing what Cortney L. Winn does next.
