Not sure why this book gets all the love that it gets. I didn’t care for the MMC at all. He was lying the entire time. The FMC was mid and not terribly memorable. Overall it was meh. Not sure if I’d read the sequel the reason for 3 stars was the ending it was fire.

But Dagen my beloved. I enjoyed Nizzara a lot.
Graphic: Child abuse
2,5
This was messy
The world building was lacking (apparently they had cars and guns?? For no reason?)
The main characters were equally boring and interesting
The story has too many elements, but didnt use any of them in a good way - they were mostly in her chamber or in the fighting ring.
It seemed like the author tried foreshadowing, but it fell flat for me.

This was such a unique and interesting book!! The ending was WILD, and I’m so excited for the next book!
This did take me a minute to get to, and my only complaint is that I wish the interactions between the FMC and MMC had begun a little earlier.
I loved the dynamic between the two main characters. They had such a good connection and I’m a sucker for star-crossed lovers. The ending truly had me at the edge of my seat, and the plot twists really caught me by surprise.
This was a great debut novel and I’m really looking forward to seeing how the story continues!

I didn't expect much but wowww. I couldn't put it down, when I say I devoured this book I MEAN IT. I love books that introduce us to different realms or magical systems. Nizzara is angry badass yet soo innocent I LOVEDD her and Dae is such a shameless flirt hehehe. The book has potential to become the next ACOTAR imo. To conclude, this was a fun fast-paced read with great character arcs and worldbuilding, looking forward to the next part.
p.s: why is the "cart cow" joke so funny?? helpppp *crying emoji*

Where to even start with this amazing book?! It has everything I want in a romantic fantasy- epic world building, unique magic system, tension and angst, and a bad*ss heroine with a heart of pure gold.
The characters were dynamic and layered, with not everyone being entirely who they appear to be at first. I am OBSESSED with our fmc, Nizzara. She is loyal, brave, fierce and clever. I loved the juxtaposition of her gritty determination, and vulnerable kindness. While she was my favorite, Daegan was a close second! He was honest, angsty, and swoon worthy. There are so many other characters I loved and can’t wait for more of. Honestly, there is just an amazing cast in this book!
The action is compelling and serves to drive the plot, which I loved! We had mysterious prophecies, a hidden diary, and revelations that had my jaw dropping. It was fast paced with just enough amount of detail. There is a cliffhanger ending, but it was done so well and I was left wanting more in all the good ways.
Overall, I loved this book and am beyond impressed by Cortney’s beautiful writing and her uncanny ability to pull at your heartstrings. There were so many unique elements that make this novel special and I have a feeling it will stay stuck in my head for ages! I will be impatiently waiting for the next thing Cortney Winn treats us with.

I loved the way that The King of Kings played into this story in hindsight and I think that this first book definitely focused on Nizarra processing the abuse she’s experienced. Cortney did a great job of writing a really complex cast of characters, even for minor characters like Brunar (my favorite yearning coward.)
I did find Nizarra’s growth in the novel to be a little too slow for my taste but she was a really well-rounded lead with understandable motivations and complexities. I liked Dagen as a love interest too but I think he made some choices that didn’t really align with his whole “never trust anyone” trauma.
I am super interested to see the political drama play out more in following books. I’m praying for a map because I was really confused by the world but I think it was just because borders were referenced and I couldn’t visualize it all.

Really enjoyed this! I thought the characters had good chemistry and liked them both alot.
But what I desperately want is MORE!
The magic system and active world was fleshed out well enough for me for a book 1, but the other realms stuff was confusing. It's made clear that the rules/intricacies of the vessel system have been purposefully witheld from the FMC, so we only learn when she does. It didn't disrupt from my enjoyment of the book though, and I feel like some of my questions on realms will be answered in the upcoming prequel novella.
For world building on the larger scale, there seemed to be lots of hits/bits of info dropped, without much explaining. From where it ends though, I'm hoping that Winn will explore more of that later as we come to a pivotal point in their history.
The fight scenes were relatively quick which I kinda liked because I'd rather get back to them talking (ie: flirting) ;)
But after that ending there, book 2 better be coming soon!
Would recommend.
Note: Please pay attention to the trigger warnings (heavy focus on domestic abuse and toxic family relationships)

“You’re fucking beautiful when you’re pointing a dagger at me.”
I can’t find the words to properly describe how I am feeling about this book. In Vesselless, we are given POVs from two main characters (+ another bonus POV later on) Nizzara and Daegan, both with complicated pasts. Their actions throughout the book speak for who they WANT to be, both torn and conflicted with what they must do. Superb world building, political intrigue with multiple plots, unique magic system with spirits and a duel to choose her fate.
“Someone once told me we can choose not to be monsters”
So many things left unanswered and a cliffhanger of a lifetime. I can’t wait to read what happens to our characters in book 2!
