Thank you to NetGalley for providing this ARC.

This book had such interesting world building, it was very different from other fantasy I've read.

The pacing was a little off so it did drag a bit at times, but I did still read the whole thing pretty quickly.

Nizzara and Dagen were interesting characters.

We did get a lot of world building thrown at us in the beginning, but it wasn't too hard to understand.

I LOVED THIS. I’ve been in and out of a reading slump and let me say this fully pulled me out!!! The magic system was so unique like nothing i’ve ever read before and i could not put this down! How am i supposed to wait for book 2???
slow-paced

This starts so slow and kind of gets better towards the end with twists and reveals.

Dagen is a delightful mmc, shadow daddy adjacent-ish.

Might read the second but will likely need a recap because the setting got confusing with sword duelling when cars and guns were also used.

Oh wow. Oh WOW. OH WOWWWOW. I was simply blown away. I love a slowwwwww burn I just love it. Enamored by the world building and intrigued by the storyline from the very first page. Nizzara quickly became one of my favorite FMCs in a long time she is so well written and multi-dimensional. And phew Dagen one of my favorite MMCs. I also really love that the whole book is dual POV. This has everything I want in a romantasy book. The ghosts & spirits & powers & prophesies & layers of conflict are unique and the characters are so endearing. I am simply just a girl and I simply love a morally grey who-did-this-to-you shadow daddy. I will never apologize for it. I laughed. I cried. I adored every bit of it. Ending is wild with a lot of twists and turns. I miss them & this world already I desperately NEED a sequel I’m going to go mad waiting. I have a feeling this is going to blow up soon and be the next big thing because it was just a gorgeous mesmerizing story from start to finish with so much more to dive into

I tried to get into it but I just didn’t care about any of the characters or the storyline and the setting was confusing. Magic, guns, other dimensions/realms, ghosts, monsters? A little too much going on!

3.5 ⭐️

Not bad. 3.5 stars. A bit predictable but enjoyable nonetheless. Enjoyed the unique world - mix of urban fantasy with some old school trad romantasy elements. Grateful for a FMC that, while bad ass, gets the shit kicked out of her REPEATEDLY. No insta-greatness. Will read book 2 whenever it comes out.
