I adored this.
This is possibly my favourite fmc I've read in a while. Nizzara balancing her complex love/hate dynamics, her power against her life threatening circumstances, and the need for appearances against her strong desire to help her people and free the bondslaves are all beautifully and complexly handled.
Adored Dae and the cocky flirting. The unfolding of his story and the history through Lo's diary also at a great pace.
Loved the trials, and I absolutely did not see the two final twists coming.
The banter was bantering, the tension was tensioning, and the chemistry was heating everything up. All the yeses to all of this.
If I had to have one gripe, I don't get the gem thing and whenever anything was described as gem studded my brain just translated that to bedazzled and pretty sure that's a whole different aesthetic.
