This book was so nice and happy and feel good for like 80% and the last 20% just ripped my heart out. I died of laughter and also sobbed so hard. The only thing keeping this from a 5 star is the miscommunication trope. It was fine and then it just kept going and was driving me crazy but also in the best way. IT HURTS

oh my god this was awful. i loved it but this was complete torture.. that last 10% had me holding my breath and trying to die. book 9 better be the last installment i genuinely don't know how much more of this i can take. also most zodiac academy books are long af but this is the first time i really felt the length it felt like there was way too much filler in this one. i love the characters and even enjoyed getting chapters from characters i hate bc this whole world is really fun but it just seemed to drag things out unnecessarily.

"Wow, that was dramatic."

Picking up immediately after the events of Zodiac Academy: Fated Throne, we have pain and trauma and fire and this review isn't going to be very professional because I'm getting tears on my keyboard okay let's GO.

I feel like this is really three books smashed into one, I can definitely see the parts where the sisters were trying to wrap up certain aspects of plot with the intent for eight to be the final part in the story - but I also can't be mad at them for breezing over certain aspects? I don't even know if anyone else noticed this, but as I read I realized that there's not been a single scene I've missed reading. Sometimes I'll pick up a book and it will mention something happening off-page and I'll get a gut-reaction of sadness that the author didn't gift it to me - I never feel that about these books.

I get every single scene I want, I get more than that, and while that might make some people mad with how utterly huge they are; I love it. I feel satisfied, if not emotionally wrung out like a sponge letting my tears drizzle on some sad plant. Because for every time this book made me break down into sobs (it did, a lot) it also made me laugh so hard that my stomach cramped, and laugh so hard that more tears fell.

I don't know what they put in these books to make me love them this much, but I'm glad they did. I love these characters fiercely. I love this series fiercely. I don't need it to be written like War and Peace, I just want to wrap myself in the world and the characters that feel like people to me.

And yeah, that's a quote from my mother-FREAKING husband at the top who appeared like a radiant sunbeam in the night to set my heart aflame once again. MINDY 4 EVA BITCHES.

Content warnings: all of them, idfk. I cried. (just kidding, there's war, death, violence, gore, and sexual assault)

I just didn't need to read a graphic r*** scene, regardless of how evil the guy getting assaulted is, it doesn't add to the plot at all and was clearly just added in for shock value. I already wasn't enjoying the book as much as the others because they're supposed to be at war and literally nothing is happening but yeah that scene just cemented the fact that I'm done with this series

Did this book chew up my heart and spit it out? Yes. Did it tear my soul into tiny pieces? Also yes. But it had my thanking it and asking for more. I love these characters so much and we’ve come such a long way from the villainous Heirs and ignorant Vegas. I am at the edge of my seat waiting for the finale of this series. Though I’m very upset I have to way until December 2022 for the final book. I waited nearly 4 months to start reading this book trying to close the gap between the two of them since I was able to consecutively consume books 1-6. Alas, I was weak and NEEDED to know what happened, and even still I tried to make this book last. Luckily it is super long (but super good and it does not drone on like some long fantasy books do) and so heavy that I couldn’t read the book in a night or two like I’d done with the previous books. I think I’ll just have to read the boys’ POV and the other short stories (and possibly Ruthless Fae) to get my Zodiac fix for the next 8 months. Peckham and Valenti need to stop trying to kill us!

OMG! I hate the authors so much, but absolutely loved this book. We got some great character development from more minor characters which I truly appriciated. I could have done without the Lionel chapters, but I understand why they are there. I love rooting for these characters and I just need everyone to be happy in the end.
I did see a few of the plot points coming, but it didn't make them any less heartbreaking. I really need a bunch of questions answered and I swear to god if the following things don't happen, I will be very annoyed.

  • Darius somehow being resurrected, or at the very least Tori accepting it and being happy in her own right.
  • Orion and Darcy getting married and finally getting to relax
  • Seth and Caleb getting their happy ever after
  • Xavier getting new wings! - I don't know how I have seen no one talk about this. Has he not been through enough? I was sadder about this than Darius dying.

Some spoilers ahead-

Many grammatical errors, too many POVs, and too much filler. The first half of the book could have easily been condensed. I’m also upset we couldn’t see more of Tory and Darcy’s training and learning more about themselves at Phoenixes. All we are reading while they’re training other characters POV in the Burrow and that’s it. Then we jump back to Tory and Darcy 4 months later and they have completed their training… seriously?

I’m also at the point where I feel Tory and Darcy deserve some sort of break. We have one good thing happen for them and then many bad things that follow and end up almost negating any of the good they have experienced. I feel at some point something has to let up, but apparently the time for that is not now.

I did finish it because I am invested now with the characters, and yes there was a lot of action at the end which I felt was good, but overall I was disappointed in the book.
