Finally…a protagonist I can relate to! This is my first Sophie Kinsella novel and represents a rare foray in to the romance genre for me. I found this book inspiring, empowering and ultimately motivational. This book was also witty: I loved the zingy dialogue as well as the cast of quirky supporting characters. Sasha and Finn have found a place in my heart and I can’t help but imagine what the future may hold for this dynamic duo! Overall, this was an entertaining read with a beautiful message about learning to love yourself and the importance of challenging the status quo to avoid burnout.
Sasha is burnt out from work. She hits a breaking point in a meeting with her boss, which leads to her running out of the office and across the street to a convent for refuge. After being rejected by nuns, Sasha’s mom sends her on a three-week vacation. Sasha finds herself again with surfing, kale smoothies and connecting with other nice humans. This is a plucky hug of a book, and I can’t wait to read more Sophie Kinsella.
I love how kind everyone in this story is! Of course, on the train to the beach, Sasha comes across a grumpy man who winds up staying at the same resort as her. They of course bond and it is equal parts hilarious and heartwarming. I also adored all of the oddball supporting characters.

I love Sophie Kinsella. While her books may not be literary masterpieces and often feature similar main characters, they are always fun to read and make me laugh out loud. The Burnout was no different- I related to Sasha and enjoyed her story as well as the romance, though some parts made me cringe.
My favorite part of this novel was the ending, which is rare when I am reading a romance.

Spoiler
Normally I cannot stand the miscommunication trope, but I think it was done very well in The Burnout. Yes, Sasha was assuming Finn was hung-up on the ex-girlfriend, but she was also right that they were both in bad places to start a relationship. She ended things maturely and both her and Finn acted like adults and were able to resolve the issues in their personal lives before reconnecting on a romantic level. I appreciated Sasha's character development throughout the novel and was happy with where she ended up.A whole load of endearing twiddle. Cringey, wholesome, nonsense.

I loved this book! I didn’t realize it was going to be a romance when I started. I really related to the MFC because I know what burnout feels like. I’m going to recommend to my girlfriends.
