De burn-out

Sophie Kinsella

3.64 AVERAGE

The Burnout by Sophie Kinsella was a fast paced romcom following Sasha, a 30 something who works WAY too much and has no work life balance. After having a breakdown, she ends up on a two week vacation in her childhood family vacay spot. There she finds kooky hotel staff, a grumpy also stressed out man named Finn and dare I say it, herself. I thought this was a fun and quirky read. I've said it once and I'll say it again, I love a relatable, mentally ill female main character. There is something so refreshing about a character who struggles with stress and anxiety, and watching her come out on the other side of it. 4/5 stars.

Okay I really enjoyed this and didn’t find it as difficult as some of the British humor - it’s a satisfying, fun, and funny ride.

this book was kind of cheesy at times, but it won me over in the end

As someone who doesn't read romance very often, Kinsella seemed to me to be a big name and someone with lots of writing experience, so I thought her books might be worth a try. Didn't like it. The pacing was weird and some of the plotlines/characters were a bit annoying (like Lev and the resolution of Sasha's work situation, and, dare I say it, Terry and the insane impact he seemed to have). I did like some of the humour and silliness though, like the mad cast of characters at the hotel and the farce of them
all coming into the Finn's room when he and Sasha were in bed
. The
3rd act breakup and the phone call that sparked it were ridiculous, and not in a fun or comical way
