Entertaining read. I don't normally go for middle grade but decided to give this a chance because I thought the premise was interesting. Perhaps I'm just new to the genre but I wish things would have been expanded upon more, like Cassidy's feelings or Jacob's backstory. 3.5 stars but can't do that so I guess I'll give it a three.

I bought this book secondhand for 150 PhP (Less than 3 USD). My first Schwab book is “Everyday Angel,” so I thought it made sense to find books from her on the same caliber.
To be honest, Part 1 and 2 were not giving. Yes, I liked the idea of seeing ghosts and having the ability to walk between life and the Veil, but I kept thinking: So what? What is Cassidy going to do with her ability?
That’s why Part 3 onwards is my favorite! Lara’s introduction saved this whole book for me. As she is someone with more knowledge on the Veil, my questions on how the main character could use her ability were answered. But, I must say, when I saw her name, I immediately thought of Lara from Katseye and couldn’t get that portrayal out of my head. This led me to search the internet for fanarts of Lara and barely saw anything. With only a few posts about this story, I realized that “wait, this series has such a small fandom!” It now made sense as to why I couldn’t find this book in bookstores and libraries.
With that being said, I’ll definitely read the sequel once I get a hold of a physical copy. It might take long, though, because I can’t find this book anywhere for sale in my place.

This is only my second book of Victoria’s that I’ve read, but my word did I love it. The characters are witty and perfectly imperfect, and even though I thought the climax started really suddenly and would’ve preferred more build up, I don’t have much more to complain about. Also, this is my first middle grade book since middle school, so I don’t know too much about how the typical climax building goes.
