BELOVED!!!!
This one was slow and full of character development. I love adventure, but this one still gripped me, even if the main setting is Buckkeep. I love the mess that is Fitz, even when I want to smack the back of his head a little. Chade also frustrates, but something I appreciate about Robin Hobb is that even when she’s making a character act in a way that’s selfish or irritating, she also shows you the vulnerability behind why they might be doing that.
I especially enjoyed Fitz’s small returns to his old self. So much has changed. He’s some version of a father figure to Dutiful, Nettle, and Hap. He sits in the in-between in so many areas. Always in the shadows! And yet still in everyone’s hearts. It always makes me happy when the minstrels sing of him, hehe.
I could write a five page essay about the Fool and Fitz, but I’ll just say I adore their connection. I keep looking up fanart and telling anyone who will listen to me that this book series is EVERYTHING.
