For a book that barely had any plot, I was so invested and blew through this in like three days lol. I very much enjoyed it.

Fitz managed to piss off everyone important in his life and fix all those relationships by the end. He's such a frustrating man to read. Plus, he's a bit of a homophobe. Who wouldn't want to be in a relationship with the Fool whose love knows no bounds? We'd all be so lucky.

Robin Hobb (coolste persoon ooit, als je de bio aan het begin van haar boeken moet geloven) heeft een talent voor het gedetailleerd schrijven van complexe karakters en lastige politieke situaties.

Daardoor ben ik het meestal niet eens met de levenskeuzes van de hoofdpersoon, maar na 4 boeken over hem te hebben gelezen respecteer ik dat hij gewoon een beetje (communicatief) dommig en impulsief is.

“Buckkeep Castle was stuffed full of secrets, and half of them were not secrets at all. They were only the things we dared not ask one another for fear the answers would be unbearably painful.”

I love court intrigue so this was a hit for me, especially finding ourselves fully back in Buckkeep. With that said, there was not a big driving plot and the pacing was a bit slower in this one. Definitely a lot of day to day life and set up for the final book in this trilogy, which seems poised to pack a big punch. 

I love Fitz. I love the Fool. I love these characters and the layers of their relationships and emotions. Hobb really digs into the topic of parenthood and rectifying your own errors and choices in life in the face of trying to parent or mentor.
