This book somehow managed to go from bad to worse. Too many ideas and concepts were tackled in too short of a book with not enough mastery of writing and it made for apocalyptic erotic splatterpunk slop. I would have probably enjoyed this book as an edgy teenager. "What the fuck did I just read?" is not because the book is challenging and has a complex plot, it's because it's a string of almost nonsensical events.

I’ve been saying octopi are aliens for years yall. I wouldn’t have finished this if it weren’t for the audio version, which is well done. The plot and the characters were a bit all over the place and it was just missing something, maybe a hook?, for me. I didn’t feel super emotionally invested is what I guess I’m trying to get at here. Also don’t love body horror but I knew what I was getting into and that didn’t play into my rating.

I am happy I read this book but I'm honestly not sure how to feel about it.
I will say the pandemic stuff was a lot, but that's based on how we all went through a global pandemic recently. Erin's isolation was a lot... I wanted to like Savanah but I felt like her backstory and her immediate acceptance of her new murderous kink was a bit at odds. Which I'm guessing was a bit the point... I just wish the book spent more time with her. Mareva just needs a hug. Girl needs a break and a hug. I do wonder if eternity ever broke her though. I'd be interested to know if she did ever become the living god. What a way for the world to end.

Did I have a good time? I think so?

Incredibly fucked up. I’ll be thinking about this book for a while and wishing to hear more about this apocalypse and it’s dark gods.

I couldn’t get into how chaotic this was. It bites off (pun intended) way more than it can chew. Government surveillance, religious iconography, zombies, reproductive rights, public health. And the gore felt out of place in the book. I was exhausted. Did not finish
