An excellent monster story. Like three novellas strung together to carry the story from beginning of monster pandemic to apocalypse, and following three different narrators having three different experiences of this timeline. A great zombie meets slither type monster story. A sprinkling of lgbtq and feminine rage, but these are not hit so hard they overwhelm the actual story - which is the virus and fallout.
I really got into the characters in this one, and enjoyed the story telling very much. I did NOT expect the ending! I am left wanting more story, but in a very good way. It's really different, and definitely not a book for everyone- lots of gore, for one thing- but I really enjoyed it!!
So viscerally upsetting and engrossing that I literally forgot where I was on several occasions.
I have no words. Well a few might be weird, disgusting, horrific...but I guess that was the point.
This was genuinely one of the most disturbing and uncomfortable books I can remember reading, but it was compelling in a trainwreck sort of way. Not the writing itself, just the entire narrative. My brain does not know how to categorize this book at all.
I really enjoyed this book! I got pulled right into the story and the headspace of each of the characters as it went along and I really loved how restless and unhinged parts of it were precisely because there's no way that such changes and traumatic events wouldn't leave the characters struggling to be reliable narrators of their stories. Feminine angst, bloodlust, and body horror all play happily with the demons of cosmic horror that inhabit this particular apocalypse up to and including motherhood, identity, and the throws of all consuming love. Is the world doomed to it's destruction because of man's selfish consumption, because of the improbable whims of evolution and chance, or would it always be like this because of the plans of unknowable gods beyond our knowledge? Nothing is truly certain here, and honestly? That makes perfect sense.
I highly recommend going into this one with as few expectations as possible. You're going to have a lot more fun if you just let it do its own thing and enjoy things as they occur instead of trying to clamp her down under any absolute category or plot element- this is horror, but with a much broader lens than I think a lot of folks expect. Think of something like The Southern Reach trilogy which is speculative in that it's more concerned with its story and world than classification and you'll have some sense of what I mean.

This was a STAFF PICK at my local library here in Kennesaw, GA - girl, what the fuck?
I wanted to DNF this so bad. However, I couldn’t put it down. I was confused the entire time. I’m going to have to digest this for a bit - if I can stop thinking about people snacking on grey matter, or Savannah having an earth shattering orgasm every time she killed someone. Also, why was the part about Gregory possibly being ENBY or trans because dude liked to get pegged? You can just like getting pegged, idk

Whoa, this book is a LOT. Avoid if you’re easily triggered. Very fun and funny and disturbing and disgusting.
