Disappointed at author’s note that explained a few fictional points. I’d hoped for a few to have been true. Otherwise, it was excellent.

4.5 🌟 I love historical fiction, and I love books about strong women. This has been on my radar for a bit

Wow.
This was a book club pick for me, and I sidnt know what I was getting into. I love, not only our strong FMC, but her thoughtful husband, the portrayal of mothering children that are so different from each other, and the battles of women against misogynistic men.
I cheered when people were put in their place, and sat agast at times when when arrogance won the day.

A hard story with beautiful moments and people shining in the darkness.
