Disappointed at author’s note that explained a few fictional points. I’d hoped for a few to have been true. Otherwise, it was excellent.

I savored listening to this book. It felt like reading an Outlander book but with faster pacing and fewer things to keep track of. I loved Martha the main character and her devotion to bringing Justice for her patient Rebecca Foster, who was raped by the town judge, North. Martha’s detective work, coupled with her midwife work, meant that there was never a dull moment in the story. I also appreciated the “quiet moments” of the book when she described her relationship with her husband and children. Overall, I really really enjoyed this one and would definitely recommend it to people who enjoy historical fiction.

Loved this one. I was rooting for the good guys & hoping for revenge on the bad. I'm a fan of tying up loose ends & answering all lingering questions and this book did just that. A mystery solved, revenge had, and women power all together. Loved it.

This is probably my favorite historical fiction work. Martha is formidable, compassionate, principled, and empowered. She goes head to head with an evil ogre and serial rapist, and she humiliates him over and over again. There was a lot of drama and action and plenty to mourn and plenty to celebrate.
