I am really drawn to books that slowly unfurl in front of you. Everything and nothing happens in this book. Ingrid and Martha’s relationship reminds me a bit of the relationship I have with my sister. We get each other, we find each other hilarious and we’re not afraid to call each other out.

Probs 3.6. I was having trouble liking or even really following it and found a review that said it was Fleabag-esque. Once I started reading through that lens it was better.

screaming, crying, throwing up. being human is hard & this story broke me one million times. a devastating & beautiful portrayal of mental health challenges & the resiliency of those who stay hopeful despite it all… ❤️‍🩹

I don't know how it's possible for a character to be so excruciatingly self-involved and yet charming and hilarious. Ingrid and Martha's dialogues were for me the highlight and I loved their relationship. I don't believe Martha deserved Patrick and I don't know if I'm entirely pleased by how gracious he was. I did, however, like this quote: "And you have been loved for all your adult life by one man. That is a gift not many people get, and his stubborn, persistent love isn't in spite of you and your pain. It is because of who you are which is, in part, a product of your pain." However, the way she treated the people who loved her was in my view inexcusable and while perhaps explainable as being the result of undiagnosed mental illness, I don't think it made it OK.
